Getting in Shape

Intro and Need for Accountability

Hi All, I am new to posting (but a forever lurker - love to read these and the nest during a slow night shift) but I am getting anxious about the wedding dress so I wanted to get to know you guys and to have you all keep me accountable through this process!

My name is Amanda, I am 27 and my wedding is on October 9th.  We have been engaged for a long time so I am just getting the "holy cow, this is actually happening!" stage.

I would really like to lose 5 pounds and tone up in the next three months and I am HORRIBLE at sticking to a diet!  I work out a decent amount, but I definitely eat like a football player and end up compensating for my workouts so I never lose weight.  And because I don't have much to lose it seems so damn hard!

I am one of those people who eat well for a few days, see that I lost a pound or two, and end up "rewarding" myself with food!  Then I feel like crap about it and pretty much binge on whatever for a few days until I am fed up and start the cycle over again.

So here I am, telling all of you this so i can get the guts up to do as well as all of you and look nice in my dream dress!  :)  I will start posting more accountability and I hope for all the support you can give!  I wish you all the best and hope we can all get to our big days looking and feeling terrific!

  • hi and welcome! congrats on the big day coming up! you've come to the right place. first, i think it's great that you're already active - that's half the battle. but. diet is the lion's share to losing weight (unfortunately). i understand about the "reward" eating - i get like that too ("oh, i lost 3 pounds, i can eat whatever i want" - then it's gained right back)... it sucks, and it's hard to change that type of thinking, but you can do it.

i think of willpower as a muscle too, and it needs worked out to get stronger! just try to avoid waiting too long in between meals so you're not ravenous, and have healthy stuff readily available, and it'll help you to say no. keep us posted on what's going on!

  • Diets are hard especially if they keep you from enjoying foods that you like. I would check out a program like Weight Watchers, which encourages a lifestyle change instead of a strict and impossible to maintain "eat only this" diet. WW teaches the importance of moderation and portion control. It's a good way to start practicing making healthy choices. You could also check out free calorie tracking sites. Lots of the women on this board use Livestrong's My Plate or Sparkpeople.com.

  • Amanda-

you sound EXACTLY like me...I am at a "happy weight" for my body but not for ME!  I am also getting married Oct 9th and I am looking to lose 8 lbs :)  I know I can do it but it ALL depends on diet.  I workout 6-7 days a week and I love to workout but I also love to eat.  I will be your accoutability partner :)
