Getting in Shape

Swimmers?

Anyone swim as part of their workout?  I like swimming but I'm definitely not a pro by any means, and today I kind of just threw together a mishmash of front stroke, back stroke, treading water, and bicycling.  I don't really know the best way to go about it or what is most beneficial.  Any tips?  TIA :)

Re: Swimmers?

  • I swam competitively for a long time, but that was awhile ago now..

Anyway, I'm not sure of your ability as a swimmer, but I recommend a nice warm up then do some sets followed by a cool down.  The sets can be easy.  For example, five 50s freestyle on the minute (or whatever time pushes you without making you feel like you're going to die).

I've also seen this website recommended: http://www.swimplan.com/

    Good luck!
  • Thanks for the info!  I'll check out that site too.

  • I started as basicly a nonswimmer when I started to do triathlons. I just started doing freestyle laps. I found always having a goal length helped to keep me motivated while staring at the black line! It just to be around 17-20 because that was the tri length I was shooting for, not it's more often 36-45.
