Getting in Shape

WW/Alli/QWLC/SB - New Member

Hi ladies, I am new to this board and luckily am starting early. My wedding isnt until June 2012, so ive got plenty of time...but would like to loose quite a bit. Im not sure which to go with.

WW - I have done this before and had really good luck with it. It seems from posts from you girls, you are too.

Alli - My cousin and her mom had great success with this, but I have never tried it and it looks like you girls are not very happy with it either.

QWLC - Quick Weight Loss...I have the money, but is it worth it? I see no related posts on this.

SB - South Beach Diet...I had no luck with this, but didnt try as hard as I could, my mom is doing great on it right now. I dont see any posts related to this either.

Im looking forward to getting to know you girls and get some help! I need the motivation from others. Cant wait to start!!!

  • "Diets" don't work.  What does work is lifestyle changes.  If you don't correct the actions that caused you to gain the weight in the first place, as soon as you go back to normal eating you'll gain the weight back.

There is no magic pill.  If there was something we could buy and take that would make you skinny and stay that way without a lot of work, don't you think that everyone would be skinny?

Most people are eating too much.  And too much crap.  if you start tracking you calories you'll see that you are too.  Using a free site like MyPlate or SparkPeople you cna determine, based on your current height, weight and weightloss goals, how many calories you should be eating.  Something like WeightWatchers is similar, but instead of calories you get points, but since you said you'd had success with that in the past, I'm sure you're well aware of that.

Once you've got how much down pat, it's on to what.  Processed foods are doing you no favours.  Lean Cuisine type r dinners are packed full of sodium and preservatives.  The best thing for you is to focus on eating whole, unprocessed foods.  Fruits, veggies, whole grains, meats and dairy, and nuts.  Limit your intake of refined flour and sugars, and ditch sodas, regular AND diet.

Healthy, sustainable weight loss happens at a rate of 1-2 lbs (or 1% of your body weight) per week.  So, start making changes slowly, and make it for life, not just for the wedding day.

  • I agree it is a lifestyle, and I believe that I get out of that mind-frame very quickly and start thinking it as a diet and want to quit. I think thats why im looking for the support from others to keep me thinking straight, my mom and FI arent as helpful as I would like them to be. My mom saying im fat and need to loose weight just doesnt motivate me very well and my FI being overweight as well and saying oh we can eat this tonight and then eat good tomorrow doesnt work for me either.
It is very hard for me to get rid of soda, but I need to do it. Not only for the wedding but for my health. My BP was horrible the other day and I really dont want to end up being diabetic. Its very scary for me to know how bad my health is, so I really want to do it for that too...but a wedding is a good motivator too for now. Hopefully after it will be my lifestyle and I can continue.
Thank you for the great advice, and I hope to get more.
  • What you mom said sucks!  Stick around here.  There is some great advice and support.  Join one of the daily accountability threads if you think that might help you. You can get some great meal ideas from them too!
