Getting in Shape

C25K question...

Sorry if this has been asked already. I'm thinking of doing couch to 5k. Looking at the app, it's 3 days a week, but I would lime to do 5. Any reason that might be a bad idea, or should I go for it?

Re: C25K question...

  • If you can handle it then go for it! You could also start at week 2 if week 1 looks too easy.

It depends. Do you have any running experience at all? If not, do 3 days a week. Crosstrain or strength train if you want to do more.

This is what I would guess, too. If you feel like you are ready, just skip to week 2, but do the program as it is written (3 day/week). You can work on strength training and crosstraining on the days that you're not doing the program.

    This.

There is a reason it was set up to be three days a week.
  • Like PP's, it depends on your previous running experience. When I did C25K I had NONE. I had mad shin splits, so it was good for me to rest from running in between runs and only do them thrice weekly. Now that I've been running for a year, I don't get them anymore and can run 5x a week no prob. So it just depends on your past experience. If you try doing more and are very sore, then pull back.

  • Hmm. Ok. I ran cross country in high school and on and off since then. Have been for the past few months, just not real consistent. Guess I'll stick with the 3 days on my off days from the gym. Thanks!
  • I've been doing the C52K app too, and it is pretty easy and weird because you do like 2 mins of walking then 1.5 mins of running, over and over for 30 mins. then the intervals gradually get longer and longer. It's pretty easy at first. Probably start at week 2 like the others said.
