Getting in Shape

Nutrisystem anyone?

I just started because I was plateauing for months on my WW/sparkpeople method.  I had lost about 15 on that but just couldn't focus any longer on it.  In the past I have done well on Jenny Craig (less choice - more strict) but didn't want to spend that much so I am trying Nutrisystem for the first time.  Anyone else?
Just curious if anyone has any advice.  I'm not crazy so far about the food - it's just ok. But it is really amping up my veggie and fruit intake like I never have.  Looking for interesting ideas that stay within the program but aren't just a pile of raw foods.
Also what was your experince like?  How much loss?

Re: Nutrisystem anyone?

  • I started NS January 2007, I was living in a dorm at the time and so I would eat my meals in my room go to the rec hall for salads and fruits and veggies. In 4 months, I had lost 50 pounds. In total I have lost 82 pounds. The program works if you work the program!

I fell off the wagon, and got back to horrible eating habits. I had gained half of it back. I'm getting back on the wagon again with Nutrisytem again because I know it helps me with portion control.

My advice, use the program to its fullest.

  • Thank so much.  That is great with how much you lost in a relatively short time.  I'm only a few days in and already 4 lbs down.  Crazy but working.

  • Usually you lose "water weight" in the first week. I remember my first week ever I lost 7#, first month 22#. Then again, I was also really heavy. I started at around 265 pounds.

  • Yes - I have to believe that 6 days in and 6 lbs down - it has got to be a water weight week.    I'm happy to finally see a different decade on the scale though.  I had about 40 lbs to lose and now can say I am nearly half way to goal at 20 total down.  Yeah!  I just bought the one month supply not knowing if I would like it.  I figure if it keeps me losing about 2 a week I will stick with it and go ahead and order the next 2 months. That should hopefully carry me thru to my wedding or at least get me close.
Good luck to you and congrats for getting back on the wagon (so hard to do time and time again).

  • My fiance is actually doing nutri system. He's lost about 20 pounds in 6 weeks. His biggest problem was portions. We still eat junk 2 meals out of the week though. I think its great if you don't have the time to count calories and cook for yourself. He buys the prepackaged salads and lowfat/ low cal dressing to add to his meal and frozen veggies that you just steam in the microwave. After you try everything the first month you can then pick what meals you like the best and just order those. That way you don't have the yucky split pea soup and crap like that. Ha-ha.

  • I used to love the Split Pea Soup!! I would add LS Ham chunks (protein) to it! Yum! But lately I can't stomach it anymore, it just got old to me, just like the potatoes. Yup, can't eat them!

  • I could see that certain things would get old after a while.  But there are some things I LOVE.  The breakfasts are all pretty good (except the frittata).  And I ordered too many of the same lunches.  A lot of things in red sauce, which just isn't my favorite.
I'm already down 8 in under 2 weeks - so I'm loving the results.  I think it has been very helpful for me in adjusting my portions.  Now when we go out I am trying to stick to portions that are similar to my little dishes and loading up on the unlimited veggies.  Something I was never very great at before - I'm paying more effort to it now.
