Getting in Shape

Ugh, bloating!

What are the top foods/drinks that cause you to have bloating? It seems like mine is so constant. It isn't like I am eating a ton of salt, or soda, or anything. I actually hate salty food. I drink lemon water, coffee, water, and eat pretty well. It drives me crazy. What do you guys do to prevent this or get rid of it?

  • Coffee can definitely cause bloating.  So do processed foods, not just ones that are high in sodium.

Different foods can cause bloating in different people.  Also if you eat a lot of high fiber foods but you don't drink enough water, you can get constipated and bloated.

I'm just learning that dairy causes me horrible bloating. It sucks because I adore greek yogurt.

Edited to fix my stupid type-o - not a good idea to type with one hand while holding a glass of wine!

    Ugh, yes.

OP, Constant bloating can also be a symptom of a sensitivity (gluten, lactose, IBS, etc) as well.    I'd start paying close attention to when it's the worst and if you have any other symptoms that might indicate a sensitivity.

  • You're back J&K! I looked through your wedding pics you posted on SB. It looked like it was pretty awesome.

Crap, I hope I am not allergic to anything. That would suck! I like greek yogurt! And a lot of other healthy things.

  • I find that smaller meals and lots of fruit and watery vegetables help me release the bloat- so lots of tomatoes and cucumbers and carrots.

I found that when I eat some foods, like spaghetti, I get bloated really bad. Someone told me that it is a form of acid reflux. Just thought I would throw that in here too! ;D
