Getting in Shape

Hair Health

Hi all,
I'm not 100% sure if this belongs in this area, but I didnt see where else it would really fit.  But I just dont want my body to look good, but I also want my hair to look awesome too. Right now, my hair is just below sholder length and the style and I dreaming of is quite a bit longer (like another 4-5 inches or better).  My wedding is 2 years away, BUT my hair doesnt grow very fast, and plus I can't imagine going 2 years without a trim.

So, the question. My friend told me that when she was pregnant her baby vitamins made her hair and nails grow like crazy and they were really healthy and awesome looking. She told me I should take them starting now so my hair is ultra healthy and getting a boost in growth. I'm looking for some opinions on this before I go out and buy these....OR if there are any other suggestions I'm totally open.

thanks!

Re: Hair Health

  • They actually make vitamins called: Hair, skin, nail vitamins. I take one, along with my multi vitamin each day. I have noticed my hair growing a little bit faster than normal, no noticable difference with skin and nails.

  • I agree with PP, you can find the vitamin simply called hair skin and nails at any pharmacy.. CVS, rite aid and walgreens around my area carry it.  Your hair normally grows about 1/4-1/2 in a month depending on the person, so the vitamin speeds it up a tad.  Being a hair stylist, I would definitly recommend the generic hair skin and nails vitamin, or the pre-natal vitamin.  Both will do the trick.  I would also continue to rountinely trim you hair, you want to make sure you new long hair is healthy and beautiful :) Good Luck!!!Laughing

  • Random story: I got my hair cut a few months ago.  I really wanted to chop it off to my chin, but I didn't think it would have time to grow out before May.  My hair dresser told me that many girls just bring some simple extensions with them the day of their wedding.  They are put in for the day, they are simple, and you get the nice up do without having to carry around a full head of hair for months.

I'm not saying I'm going this route, but it is an option.
  • I was considering this, because honestly I hate my hair long. However, I think it would feel weird not having my hair be my REAL hair on the day of my wedding. Maybe that's just me though..

  • Get Tee Tree Oil shampoo and conditioner!  Its amazing! It makes your hair SO healthy and shiny. And it tingles so it feels good in the morning!

  • Thanks girls...
I was actually looking at wearing my hair down in big soft curls. I suppose extensions would work with that too if need be. I'll def be looking into the vitamins and the tee tree shampoo though.

haha, I'm not sure why I'm so worried about how my hair will look before anything else.

  • I take pre-natal vitamins and an extra dose of biotin. I just get both at Target.

  • eat lots of nuts, flax seed, salmon and other oily fish, and avocado.  Good fats!  I have been doing that and growing my hair out and a stranger on the street stopped me to compliment me on my hair!   And I've seen an improvement in my skin as well.
  • I take prenatal vitamins to help my hair grow and I'm loving it!
