Getting in Shape

A Plan that will work!

Hey Everyone!
I went to a nutritionist for advice on losing weight and getting toned for my wedding. You can lose 15-20 lbs in 3 months if you definately stick to this diet and regime!

Food: Your body needs carbs so forget those crash diets!
eat 6-8 times a day. Start eating at 6:30 am. Stop eating past 7 p.m. If you don't get all 8 meals in its ok. Try your best to get 6 meals in your day. Each meal will fill you up and you will be tired of eating. The portions sound small but if you try it for a week you will see what its affects on your appetite and body.

Breakfast
you can have 3 egg whites and one yolk plus 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal ( use fake sweetener and cinnamon for flavor)

If you hate oatmeal try to slices toasted wheat bread.

You can also have a few berries.

Lunch/dinner/other meals have to contain this
1 ounce brow rice or pasta
1 cup green veggies
fist size chicken or fish ( butterfly the chicken to help your body digest, smaller pieces get digested quicker)

Drink 8-12 oz of water a day...tooo much water may hurt you

Here is the deal about fruit...its not good unless its a berry because of the amount of natural sugar and carbs in the fruit.

NO FRUIT JUICES BECAUSE THEY ARE LOADED IN SUGAR.

For a little snack try a cottage cheese cup that you can buy at the grocery store..you shouldn't eat more then 1/2 a cup of cottage cheese a day.

Workout
little weights, but alot of reps. take a 5 lb weight and do 5 sets of 25 ( work your way up to that if thats too much at first).

Strectch everyday..believe or not it helps your body get tight and slimmer.

Walk 30+ mins every day.. take stairs and avoid elevators...every little bit helps.

Beauty,
start taking fish oil pills to help with your complexion and hair growth and nail strength...this is just a little extra info to help for your big day!

Re: A Plan that will work!

  • First off, those colours really aren't necessary.

Second, some of that advice is great, but some is complete crap.  Like the part about light weights.  The only want to create definition is to lift weights that are challenging for you.

And no eating after 7 pm?  That's not putting anything into your body for nearly 12 hours, which will be way worse for your metabolism than not eating after 7.

For the future and posting on other boards, I suggest you lurk a bit first.

    Raynes is awesome.

The OP is a little crazy.  I realize she's trying to help, but some of the info is good and some isn't, like she pointed out.  There's nothing wrong with trying to correct misinformation.

    DED.

OP, I agree with Raynes. Some of the advice, like small meals with a good balance of veggies, complex carb and lean protein, are a good idea. Limiting sugar is great too. but you should really drink a lot of water every day to flush out your body.

Also, high reps at a low weight won't really do much for you. Neither will just walking around your office, unless you are very overweight and just starting out. Personally, I have 70 more pounds to lose (so I'm not skinny), but I get my cardio in by jogging and doing HIIT. Even Jillian Michaels says that just taking the stairs is really not enough. Something, but not quite enough.

  • OH wow how heated this got...

First off, both "Jannie and John" and "Raynes" are right... in their own way. I am no way a professional but I take my health seriously and I read up on everything. The 6 meals a day is good because it keeps your metabolism going all day. Low weights w/ high reps builds lean muscle. Using heavy weights and challenging yourself builds muscle and you bulk up. I am an avid follower of Jillian Michaels, I do her "No More Trouble Zones" 4-5 times a week and pair it with 5-6days of cardio (running on the tread mill for 45-80mins) and in her DVD she talks about using low weights with high reps to build lean muscle. I lost 12lbs in 2 weeks doing just her workout alone, I left my eating habits the way they were so low weights with high reps DOES do something for you.

No matter what though, in order to lose weight and build muscle you have pair exercies with diet. You dont necessarily have to be on strict diet by any means. I started my exercise/diet lifestyle in Jan 2010, and within 4months I lost 20lbs. I am now just maintaining my weight by daily exercise and a healthy diet.

EVERYBODY is DIFFERENT! My plan may not work for others, same as with the plan "Jannie and John" posted. That may have worked for them but not neccessarily for me. I have tried many things and never got results or ones I was aiming for. Jillian Michaels just happened to be what I needed to obtain my goals.
Im not trying to say whose right and whose wrong or what works and what doesnt because both have vaild points. Im just speaking from my experiance and what I've learned throughout my routines.

    My tips however would be:
Eat 100% Whole Grain. (its healthy and keeps you feeling fuller longer.)
Eat natural fruits for snacks instead of fatty snacks.
Drink lots of water. (I drink about 2PT at the least which is two squeeze bottles of Ice Mountain water.)
Keep portions to the size of your fist.
Stop eating after 7:30 ( I only say this because your metabolism slows down when you sleep, so eating heavily after dinner isnt the best idea and this WORKS for ME - everybody is different)
Exercise daily even if its just a short walk, exercise is exercise.

So all in all both have vaild points. Those things do work, just differently from person to person. So take that! lol
  • One more thing, the colors were just to break up the different points! Who cares!? :)
