Getting in Shape

Post break- up

No wedding in my books anymore. FI called off the engagement. BUT any good workout plans for a terrible break up? I don't wanna be wallowing.

Aw, I'm so sorry to read that.  My stress reliever is usually lifting heavy weights.  I would also suggest some form of boxing :)

  • I am so sorry!

When I'm upset, I like to go for long jogs. Maybe that's an option for you?

  • :( keep your head up girl. and you've got the right idea, don't wallow!

nothing is a better mood lifter than a morning workout (for me anyway) - if you're not against waking up a lil earlier, i would suggest doing some lifting and cardio in the morning. it helped me with seasonal depression years ago and it helps me start my day now.

    good luck!

  • So, so sorry to hear that! But good for you for not drowning your sorrows in a tub of Ben and Jerry's! Last big breakup I had, I lost about 20 pounds very quickly. I just really focused on myself and exercised regularly. And then I met my FI.

I think ANY kind of exercise will make you feel much better. Spinning is a blast and I think this may be a good time to get into weight lifting if you haven't already. Good luck to you! Keep up the positive attitude!

High intensity anything.  Boxing would probably be very good too.

I'm really sorry to hear about what's happened to you.  Busting your arse in the gym will be much better for you than a pint of Ben and Jerry's.

I always find lifting heavy weights to be quite cathartic.

  • I'm sorry that happened.  And, good for you for not wallowing.  I find that whatever activity I'm doing I like to hear some "inspirational" songs.   It's cheesy and makes me laugh, but Eye of the Tiger, and Fighter by Christina Aguilera just make me work out like crazy.  I did that after my last break-up and lost 20 lbs....

  • I'm sorry to hear that hun.  You'll be in my thoughts.

I find some good tunes, weights and a jog help me when I'm stressed.

  • thanks a lot ladies. I just enrolled myself into a Turbo Kickboxing class. It should help me take out all of my anger towards that jerk off. BTW, all this talk about Ben and Jerrys is realllly making me want to go against my diet plan. aaahhh! After crying and crying for hours and hours with no sleep, i think i deserve ice cream...NO! i can't. but thanks ladies for everything.

Hey man, if you really want some ice cream, get some ice cream.  I'd say broken engagement is a good reason for some B&Js (just no BJs), just keep it under control and work your arse off in kickboxing.

A person is allowed to splurge.  So long as it's a splurge and not a binge.  And so long as you get back on track.  Splurges make us happier people in the long run, IMO.

  • Sorry to hear about what happened! Like everyone else has said, it is great you're not going to wallow. Focus on yourself!!

I remember when I broke up with my last ex, I lost 20 pounds quickly + him (300) so all together 320! ;)

I think having some B&J, is not bad! If you have the "healthier" version is shouldn't be as bad!

  • I am so so so sorry to hear this, you must be really stressed right now. try your best to stay healthy whether it's avoiding overeating or making sure you eat enough. Try to work out your aggression with running or kickboxing/weights (or any workouts that you enjoy). Again- I am really sorry. I hope you get through this and everything works out for the best.
  • I'm really sorry to hear this. You should be proud of yourself for being strong though and doing the best thing for you and your body.
