HCG Diet

It's really popular where I work right now, and I'm curious if any of you ladies have tried it?

I've read a ton about it and want other peoples feedback on it.

Here's a summary for some of you who don't know what I'm talking about:
It involves either a daily shot or HCG drops 30 minutes before each meal. and the diet itself is only 500 calories a day.

HCG is the pregnancy hormone. It releases unhealthy stored fat into the blood and you basically live off your deposits.

  • A 500 calorie diet is not sustainable. That's starvation. You need at LEAST 1200 calories a day.

    Don't do anything on a "diet" that can't be sustained long-term. What you need to do is drop your calories to a healthy amount and work out more.

    And 500 calories is starving yourself.  If you have to inject yourself or take hormones to lose weight, it's not a healthy or sustainable way to go.

  • That sounds very scary... injecting hormones AND starving yourself. Afraid you probably aren't going to find any followers of that "diet" here.

  • Just THINK about this. You sound like someone with some common sense, trust your instincts. This NOT a good route to go.

    I just needed to hear normal peoples opinions!!
    i considered it for five minutes when the girls were talking about it. but then they never stopped talking about it. I secretly and "lovingly" refer to their diet as a cult diet when they bring it up Smile

    I just needed normal people. thanks again ladies!

    Yeah, we all think it's crazy and mean (I mean, some pregnant women NEED those hormones, and they can't get them as readily).

    We have lots of great ideas for good, sustainable, healthy ways of losing weight if you're interested!

  • I"M ON THIS DIET NOW......i started may 8th and today i'm 23.3 lbs ligher. i'm sexy and i love it. i have 3.6 more lbs to go to reach my goal. i HIGHLY reccomend this.

  • But then what happens if you stop taking the hormones and start eating a managable amount of calories a day?  It would be amazing if you can live long-term on only 500 calories a day without looking like someone living with anorexia on Interention (and/or not being massively cranky from hunger). 

    From what I've heard HCG is wicked expensive and would be tough to maintain spending the money on it.  Personally, I prefer to spend my "GIS budget" elsewhere.

  • i paid $120....and it was my birthday present....i don't really call that wicked expensive. you only do it for 45 days because your body will get used to it. after the 45 days you are on a "setting the weight phase" for 3 weeks where you can eat more than the 500. during those 3 weeks you don't gain or lose more than 2 lbs. after the 3 weeks you go back to eating normal just very healthy. it's a lifestyle chage. today i'm at 24 LOST. that is AMAZING if i do say so myself.

  • sorry i can't seem to get my thougts all out at once but it curbs your hunger. I'm not hungy and that is not a lie. yes the first days/week was hard but that is it. and once you see your self lose that first 5-10 lbs you feel so great about your self and it gets super easy. i have to cook for my family and not eat it but even that has gotten MUCH easier. i want to look the best i can and skinny=me happy. i'm 2.8 lbs away from my goal and i haven't weighed that since HS.

    are you doing the injection or the drops?

    how closely do YOU stick to the diet?

    The ladies at work are a littl crazy about it-- eating less than recommended so they can 'substitute in' stuff not recommended on the diet. They work out more now than tehy did before. they're going a little extreme.

    Totally not related to the diet-- but do you really show pregnant on a pregnancy test while taking the HCG hormone?

  • i'm pretty sure it does show positive on the test....but i'm not 100% on that.

     i finished them on friday and then you have to stick to the diet for the next 2 days. yesterday was my final day to lose and this morning i'm at 24.4 lost. starting today i'm "setting the weight".
    i did the drops once in the morning and once at night. i bought them at a pharmacy near where i live. some places want you to join a group that cost money etc but there is no need just make sure you are buying the REAL thing. mine was 120 and i bought the generic.
    i didn't work out ONE single time while on the diet. i followed the diet exactly how it says to. i did cheat 4 times so my loss could have been more. but it says very CLEARLY not to substitute. he says he even substituted mushrooms and things that had a lower calorie count and it sometimes even stopped the progress....all foods not listed are FORBIDEN. he studied this for a very long time and for it to truly work and to keep the weight off you have to follow it. also no make up, oils, or lotions can be used becasue it will soak up the HCG and it will be point less. the only thing you can take is birth control pills.

    but with all that said my FMIL did this diet cheated EVERY weekend all 3 days and still lost 14 lbs. but who knows if she will keep it off.

    In all seriousness, please come back after awhile and let us know how you're doing.  Any side effects, more weight loss, a gain, etc. 

    (and I'm honestly not being rude here, I am genuinely interested to hear how this goes for you.)

  • i will. i'll give you and update after the 3 weeks is over and then right before my wedding september 24th. after the 3 weeks i'm going to hit the gym hard so i can lose the 2.4 pounds so i can finally reach my goal of 125. but from here on out i really don't see myself letting myself get fat agian as it is a lifestyle change.
    but then agian with me it may be different as i was 128 and then last november i went through a lot in my life and started eating and started gaining until i was at the 151.8 and started the HCG. so this isn't weight i've had all my life.

  • so i'm back...it has been 3 weeks. i weight 128 today. i followed it the last 2 weeks but the 3rd week was a whole different story...i ate 4 doughnuts, went and had a HUGE dinner at chuys, and i have been eating cereal and chips and salsa like it's going out of style. even with all that i didn't gain. i'm going to start working out soon...hahha prolly not but i want to.
