Getting in Shape

help me find some articles please :]

so i have this girlfriend who is a nurse, which means her eating and sleep schedules are all out of whack. i'm trying to help her get back on track with getting in shape, but i think it would be easier for her both energy-wise and schedule-wise if she started working on her diet first. (she already walks a ton for work as it is, and i know she's eating a lot of quick processed stuff so that needs to go.)

i know the basics and the diet principles i practice for myself (my diet is pretty clean, but sometimes it's hard to explain the basics to others who haven't read as much about it - or who haven't spent as much time obsessing over it lol) could you ladies help me find her some online articles or websites in general to get her going? i have a few books that i'm going to give her, but something shorter and quicker would probably help a little more. thanks ladies! :]

My go-to recommendation is always Stumptuous.

For nutrition, there's a whole series of (well written) articles under her Eating tab, and more specifically, under "How to Eat" (link)

  • I learned enough from Fitness magazine and similar ones (Women's Health, etc.) to gain "resident nutritionist" status in a group of physicians & nurses. Seriously, those are legitimate resources. When the cite sources and I look them up, they're always legitimate.

Spark People is also good. If you want someone to learn proper nutrition, stay away from Glamour or even Self magazine. They have some decent information, but most of their recipes and diet tips are about cutting calories and portion control. While it's important to learn to eat a reasonable meal at a fast food place occasionally, it's much more important to learn how to substitute good food for crap.
