Getting in Shape

losing 15

Do you think it's possible to healthily lose 15lbs in 3 months? I'm not heavy but I would feel so much more confident in my wedding dress if I lost that much. I've been eating healthy and exercising and still have not lost anything.

Any ideas or tips? Pretty frustrated but motivated to lost it. help...

Re: losing 15

  • Try not to think so much about 15 lbs, perhaps just toning would make you feel better?  I know this sometimes work for me.  I think you need to make sure if you really want to loose the 15 to stay healthy, like you say you are doing.  I have friends who when they lose weight and concentrated to loose it, sometimes it deters them because they are too focused.  Keep up what you are doing and just try to concentrate on other things for the wedding and I'm sure the weight will come off more easily.  Hope this helps!
  • Healthy, sustainable weightloss happens at a rate of 1-2 lbs per week.  3 months is about 12 weeks, so you would lose anywhere from 12-24 lbs in that amount of time, but it would probably be closer to 12, especially if you don't have a lot of weight to lose.

    A few things to consider:
    1. Weight isn't everything.  As nfl said, perhaps you would benefit more from adding some muscle to your frame.  Strength/resistance training might not make the scale go down as far, but it will help you obtain a firmer, sexier body.

    2. Alterations.  Make sure you take time for alterations into account.

    3. Don't do it just for the wedding.  Seriously, no one will notice the "extra" 15 lbs.  They'll see a beautiful, happy bride.  If you want to lose weight/inches, don't do it to look good for your wedding, do it to be healthy for your marriage.

  • It's definately do able :)  But I totally agree with PPs and do it to be healthy and feel better (I'm totally being a hypocrite right now because I am working on losing 15 pounds for my wedding and cruise after lol).

Anyways find out what works for you and figure out your foods and add in 30 minutes at least a day of excercise.  Drink lots of water too and I'm sure those 15 pounds you want gone with go with ease.  Also it is getting to be summer and I've heard that in summer as long as you drink lots of water you will lose weight (of course as long as you aren't stuffing your face with a ton of calories).

What do you like to do for activites, walk, run, weights etc?

  • THanks ladies. I'm definately not just doing it for the wedding but it helps. I went to a personal trainer a few years ago and I loved the results. I didn't lose any weight really but I gained muscle. I more or less want to feel as confident as I did then.

Right now I eat pretty well (im bad at eating consistently throughout the day), and I work out at least 3 times a week either cardio or weights. I know I need to up the gym time but stilll.....
  • I joined a gym at the end of Feb. When they did my March measurments I was 166 pounds. The same exact weight I was when I started. I can't tell you how discouraging this looked. I go to the gym A LOT. I mean.. I'm there 5-6 days a week for at least an hour, sometimes 1.5 hours. When she did my body fat I havd lost 2% body fat in a month. That is HUGE. It was incredible.

Like I said though.. I lost zero pounds. Weight isn't everything, or anything really.

  • I would try logging your food into an online tracker like sparkpeopleor livestrong. Both are free, and will help you understand exactly how many calories you're eating. A heart rate monitor would help you determine how many calories you're burning. A deficit of about 3500 calories works out to losing about a pound a week for most people.

    HTH!

  • Eating fresh foods helps me a lot. Stay away from fast food and food with preservatives. I can work out til I am blue in the face, but I won't lose weight unless I eat right. Good luck!! :)
