Giving up red meat & most breads

Hey Brides!  I'm still pretty new into the "wedding day diet" and I'm trying to continuously change things that will keep my body from getting use to the foods that I eat and the exercise that I do.  The day that I got engaged I gave up all soft drinks, except for the occasional Sprite.  Yesterday I decided that I would now give up red meat and most breads (rolls, bread sticks, sandwich bread, buns, etc.).  As far as exercise goes, I've been walking outdoors (up and down hills) and doing a yoga video.  Today I've ordered P90X because so many of you have said great things about it.

I was hoping that maybe you all would be able to give some advice/experiences that you may have had when making these same choices (giving up red meat/bread and doing P90X).  Any words of wisdom/encouragement are greatly appreciated!

  • I'd suggest following the nutrition plan that comes with P90X while you're doing the program. It will give you a well rounded healthy diet. Good luck!
  • I would strive for a well rounded diet, rather than one that excludes certain foods.  That way you won't be craving certain foods or be lacking in any areas, nutrition-wise.

p90x is a great workout, just be sure to take your time and not push yourself too far in the beginning.  I ended up with tendonitis in my tricep, and don't recommend the experience!  Good program, though.  Good luck, and stick around for healthy eating ideas- we have an accountability post every day where we post what we're eating, that can give you some ideas.

  • Consumed in moderation, red meat is not evil, it's a great source of protein!  And all breads are not created equal.  While cutting out white, processed breads is genearally a good idea, things made from whole or sprouted grains are quite good for you, again, in moderation!

  • Ditto pp, you really need red meat for the iron. There is a difference between the iron you get from veggies and red meat.

  • I gave up red meat and pork 17 years ago, and since I was so young honestly I can't remember what it tastes like.  I have cut back on breads, especially white and potato bread, but still eliminating red meat and bread does not mean you will get much weight loss.  I have gained 30lbs in the last year, mainly because I love sweets and starches, so I would say a balanced diet would be more beneficial
