Getting in Shape

lunch rut

hey girls - help me get out of my (2.5 year!) lunch rut... i seriously have brought salad as lunch everyday for the past 2.5 years that i've been working full-time. i guess you could say that since i have a desk job, i'm paranoid that my office-hours eating will cause me to gain weight, so i play it safe with salad: chicken, lettuce, tomatoes/cucumbers. and during lent, i put tofu on it! haha but no cheese, and no dressing. and i usually have some fruit afterward.

help me out - what could i substitute as equally healthy/low-cal for lunch? thanks!!

Re: lunch rut

  • I keep saying this, so sorry for the repeat: Greek yogurt with protein powder and frozen berries.  For a quick sandwich I really like a sandwich thin with 2% cheese and hummus or avocado or roasted chicken breast.

Cucumber/tomato salad with light Italian dressing

Add apples or mangos or more fruit onto your salad for some different toppings. (sliced almonds).

Grilled chicken, spinach, tomato, cucumber, light honey mustard on a whole wheat wrap

Soup (non-creamy) with melba toast crackers- some soups will have lots of sodium though.

Tuna or chicken salad and instead of mayonnaise I use plain yogurt for the chicken salad.

    HTH!

  • thanks girls!

katie: what are sandwich thins - are they like pita pockets? lol sorry that probably sounds dumb... i just have avoided sandwiches in the past because of the extra carbs, and if they have fewer carbs than bread, i'll be stoked!

  • Arnold's makes sandwich thins (near the hotdog and hamburger buns in the bread aisle) that are just super skinny buns basically.  They are 1 WW point and are something like 100 calories and 5 g of fiber (depending on the type and the brand-Pepperidge farm makes them too).  There are also bagel thins which are awesome too!

  • I was in a lunch rut too.  I started eating some of the weight watcher smart ones meals.  The chicken quesidilla (spelling??) has two in them so it lasts me two days. I pair it with carrots and cream cheese (Weight Watchers individual packets) and yogurt.  Sometimes I add something else like WW string cheese or something crunchy!
