Getting in Shape

New to P90X!!

My fiance and I started P90X Sunday (6/5).  We are really enjoying it, after two days I already feel better! I am hoping the results that I see will keep me motivated, but does anyone have advice on other ways to keep it up?  I am the type that will get into it for two weeks then fall off the wagon, and with me already seeing changes I really want to keep it go!

  • Print out a blank calendar ( I get mine from Shape.com) and write down the days you are working out and exactly what you will be doing. Then put it up somewhere that you know you will see everyday like your bathroom mirror or refrigerator. Check off each day as you do it. For some reason, visually seeing a plan and what time I am expected to work out really helps for me. Also, download the app MyFitnessPal. Log each day you exercise and record your eating habits. Since I have downloaded the app, I have lost 2 pounds. It has enabled me to recognize what I am eating and allowed me to follow my own progress more closely. Also, you can add friends and see eachother's progress. I have got my fiances whole family in on it and we are doing it together!

As a P90X grad, I can say I probably would not have done it if FI wasn't there to motivate me.  Now that I've reinjured my knee (not from P90X) and can't work out FI says the workouts are a little boring, since I'm not there to do them with him.  You and your FI can help motivate each other and keep each other on track.

    Some P90X lesssons I've learned:

-If you have any trouble or questions, post on the beachbody boards.  They're there to help you.

-Getting the recommended amount of sleep is essential.  I went a month with 4 hrs a night and saw absolutely no change from the previous month.  It was very dissappointing and took a while to figure out it was my lack of sleep.

-Don't get disappointed if you gain weight.  I gained 5 pounds my first month, but lost several inches on my waist.

-The days you don't feel like working out are the days you need to the most.

-Don't skip the yoga because it's hard.. it will get easier!

-Stick with the diet.. no cheats for 3 months. This actually gets easier, I didn't want any of the bad food.. until the beginning of month 3.. then I really wanted a piece of cake, which is really weird because I never really liked cake that much.  I had my cake on day 91 and then immediately felt guilty about it.

    Good luck!
