Getting in Shape

Monday - New Members

Hello everyone,

I've been on the boards for a little while now, but just recently started lurking on this board.

I work as an office manager for a national gym franchise, and finally on January 20th this year, I started taking advantage of my free gym membership. Two things finally motivated me. 1: I stepped on the scale and it almost hit 200. I've always been a little big bigger, but had always stayed around 150 (I'm 5'2" so I was a size 10/12 which I was fine with). 2: I have to wear a bridesmaid dress for my brother's wedding in June, and I ordered it a size too small.

I've already lost 17 pounds, and several inches off my waist, belly and hips, and should easily fit into the dress I ordered, heh. I've been using MyFitnessPal to track calories, and working out 5 days a week pretty much every week. There are of course weeks where I miss days, and days where I don't eat as well, but for the most part it really has been a lifestyle change for me and I feel great.

I wish everyone luck on their journey and I hope to get ideas/be able to give ideas on this board. Happy Monday everyone! Smile

  • Welcome! I'm also a new member as of today. I wish you luck in your weight loss and congrats on the 17 pounds you've lost so far! I fluctuate with my weight and never can get into the double-digits with pounds lost before I start to gain it back. You must be so proud of yourself! WTG!!!

  • Thanks for the welcome you guys!

Meg - I know exactly how you feel. The few times over the past 4 years that I've lost weight, it's all been single digits and came right back. I think what I did differently this time was I actually changed my eating habits one at a time, so that I wasn't like dieting or going without certain things cold turkey. And counting calories, as much as I hate it, definitely keeps me on track. And MyFitnessPal makes it a lot easier to count calories, so I don't hate it as much anymore.

I am actually really proud that I've been able to lose and keep off so much so far. Going to the gym is a big part of it, and I'm lucky because since I work for the gym I go to, I know the manager and she's very motivating. Like if I miss days she'll call the office and go "we missed you today!" so it keeps me motivated to go.

Thanks again, and good luck with your goals!
