Hip Pain Has Me Sidelined, This Sucks

I have been running a lot lately and I plan to run a 5k at the end of the month, but I started having hip pain a few days ago and last night's run just aggravated it.  Now I'm extremely uncomfortable and I'm not sure how long this will affect my workouts, Just when I was getting in the groove of things, here goes a setback

  • Rest it and do some cardio that doesn't effect your hip as much, like swimming or ellyptical. Otherwise, good luck on recovery. Sorry about the set back.

  • I can only run about 3 times a week because of that. After a long (3 miles +) run my hips and knees sometimes feel sore the next day. As I get into better shape and am not so heavy, I think it will improve.

I would switch to strength excercises, especially upper body, for today.

  • bummer! i feel  your pain... definitely don't try to work through the discomfort, but do rest it up and maybe take some advil. if it keeps up, i'd see a chiropractor to see if maybe your hips need adjusted or something (i know a lot of people are iffy or feel negatively about this, but i've been going to one since my mom delivered me and that's my go-to for pain and injuries!) feel better soon! :]

  • Thanks, I  no longer have a gym membership, so running was my go to exercise.  I am taking swimming lessons so I guess it will be that and Jillian Michaels.  Now I'm not sure if I will be able to do this 5k the Saturday after next.  I did ice it today and it feels better, but its uncomforable to sit, walk and lay down.  I really need this to get better.

  • Google "foam rolling" and see if you can try that. It really helps with certain pain.

  • I used to use a foam roller during my warm up when I had a gym membership. That really might help, I just need to figure out where to buy one.  I also realized I overpronate when I run. My sneaker were very worn on one side and to be honest I had been using them for years.  On top of them being old, I am now 30lbs heavier so I guess that put even more strain on my hip.  I bought new running shoes for when I heal.  It still hurts to walk, especially if I am carrying anything.  I guess that 5k on August 29th isn't happening.
