Getting in Shape

In a panic..Help please!

So, I’m officially 12 days from my wedding day and I’m up on the scale and up in inches. : s  I've worked my butt off and was down a few weeks ago, but then starting out working out harder and the scale went up.  I was kind of ok with that, because i know that muscle weighs more than fat.  I'm up in inches this morning and i know l should start my period any day.  So I’m sure that has something to do with it, but im freaking.  My final dress fitting is tonight and i don't even want to go!  I eat super healthy and try to drink as much water as possible.  The last couple weekend we've had the 4th of July and my bachelorette party, so there has been more alcohol in my diet than normal.  I need some advice about what to do...  Or how to loose some weight in these last 12 days!  Help..Please!

  • Hun, calm down. First, if you are working out with weights (even light weights doing a high number of reps) you are goign to put on inches and weight in terms of muscle mass. Also, what is your salt intake like currently? If you are eating more of it than normal then that would add to water retention. Plus, this added stress is not helping your cause. I suggest getting a massage and pampeting your self a bit in order to help you relax.

But if you are adamant about working out more, why not try swimming with a club for a few days..its low impact but you burn an immense amount of calories.
  • at this point i would say just enjoy your day and know that you will look beautiful!  I know how you feel though when you've worked so hard to look your best.  If you are dead set on losing more weight before, the best way to do it is cut out as many carbs as you can.  No sugar, flour, pasta ect.  Don't even drink diet soda or anything with fake sugar.  If you stick to mostly protein and healthy carbs (veggies) you could potentially lose 5-10 lbs before your wedding.  you want to make sure to do it the healthiest way possible though.  google atkins.  i know it's a controversial diet, but i was on it for 3 yrs and loved it.  you can do it in a healthy way.

Yeah, lifting weights, especially heavy weights, generally leads to losing inches.  Yes, you're building muscle, but you're burning fat.

I agree with the advice of relaxing.

Keep your salt intake limited, lay off the booze completely, eat as clean as possible, and you should at least lose some water weight.

And, while I don't think it's good for actual, real weight loss, you could always try a "detox" wrap the day before your wedding.  It basically just sucks all the water out of you, but in a pinch it might get rid of those last few inches.

Even if it doesn't do anything, it would at least be relaxing.
