p90x bars, protein powder etc.?

those of you that have done or are doing P90x did you use the recommended whey protein powder, multivitamins, recovery formula, protein bars & performance formula (basically the P90x supplements) ? i just got my package & wanted to know how  much this affects the results. Is this extra stuff expensive?

TIA

Re: p90x bars, protein powder etc.?

  • I didn't do it.  I think that stuff is crap.  Just eat healthy!
  • I have the P90X Results & Recovery formula. It tastes really good, and is nice and refreshing after a hard workout. It's suppose to help with muscle soreness. I think a tub of this is $45, which is suppose to last a month. The directions tell you to use 2 scoops, but I usually only use one, to cut down on the calories. And therefore I get more of a month's use out of it.

I have also ate the P90X protein bars, which all the flavors are delicious. I didn't eat them regularly, so I can't say if they had an effect or not.

These supplements are not needed to see results. Follow the nutrition plan that comes with P90X, do the workouts everyday and you will love what you get from it.

  • thank you ladies. what did you eat in place of the snack or meal when it said recovery drink etc. ?

I'm not doing P90X, but I can chime in about recovery drinks and the like.  When you're doing any kind of weight training (and I'd say P90X qualifies there) post-workout recovery is a very important step.  Getting in some fast acting protein no more than 30 minutes after your workout will help speed the rebuilding and recovery of your muscles.

You'd likely be fine with any whey isolate protein powder, which are probably cheaper than the P90X brand.  I've also read something suggesting that post-workout is a great time to add in some carbs too, so what I usually do is blend up a scoop of protein powder with about a cup of frozen berries with a bit of skim milk and water.

As for the vitamins and that stuff, if you're eating a well balanced diet (lots of multicoloured veggies) you really don't need much in the way of supplementation.  However, a basic multivitamin won't hurt.  A generic/drugstore brand is fine!

  • I got a deal on the results & recovery formula from a fi's friend who bought it and never cracked the box. I love it I was working out before and missing the recovery step before raynes and nebb educated me. Now that I do it I feel so much better. I had tried other protein powders and they tasted blah.  Fi takes the supplements only because he doesn't eat his veggies like he should.
  • I am currently doing the isagenix 9 day cleanse. I have the isa cleanse and the shakes, the accelarater tablets, and the chocholate snacks. It all comes together in a kit so you don't have to buy any extras. It says you can lose on adverage 7 pounds in 9 days. www.weightloss.isagenix.com.
  • Im doing the Slim Fast 3-2-1 plan and taking MPower Fat burning pills getting great results and the Slim Fast Bars are delicious
  • I just started p90x and am using chocolate milk (seriously!) instead of the recovery drink.  It has been shown to be as good as expensive recovery drinks in a couple of recent studies.  Also, my FI used chocolate milk when he was training for his ironman last year and swears by it.  The best part though is that its CHEAP :)
