Getting in Shape

*MarriedInAFever*

I have a couple of things.

1.  Your answer in the poll on SB yesterday made me smile.  Thanks!
2. How you you like NROL4W?  I learned soooo many things reading that book.
3.  Actually, there is no 3.  So, HI!

  • Hey! I feel so special to get a shout out. I'll answer accordingly.

    1) Kiss

    2) I like it a lot! I bought the NROL for FI too. So we've been reading it and talking about it together and hope to do the plan together since it's really quite similar. I find myself trying to wrap my head around certain things a lot. Like, "Eat more, lose weight? Lift more, get smaller?" But it all makes sense. I've been doing HIIT at the gym for cardio instead of 45 mindless minutes on the ellipitical. I'm really digging it and I think it's a good plan for both FI and I. Glad you suggested it!

    3) Hey again!

The food thing was a big "a ha!" moment for me with that book.  I'd never really thought about what to eat beyond just the calories.  I'm definitely a happy camper with a high protein diet though.

From what I've read on the JP Fitness forum for the book, a lot of people have a hard time eating at a deficeit with this program.  You really do need the food to recover.  I adjusted my calories down a bit after the first month because I was gaining, and since then I've pretty well maintained my weight but lost inches/body fat%.  I don't think I could eat any less and still get as much out of it.

Sometimes I wish my H would come to the gyn with me, but he's got a very physical job and is usually pooped by the time he gets home.  So, you're a lucky lady!

  • Definitely an "a-ha!" moment. I'm STILL trying to wrap my brain around it. Especially because TDP suggests I eat 1215 cals a day. I'm excited to start the lifting portion of the book, but also slightly terrified because I have the upper body strength of a kitten. FI used to have a physical job, but now he's a pencil pusher and it drives him crazy to sit at a desk all day. So he's totally into it Tongue out

Work out the math, and it'll make sense.  I find I do better, weight wise, when I don't eat back all of my exercise calories.  I rarely burn less than 600 cals in a workout (it's been as high as 800 before) so yeah, that was a big thing for me!

Oh, and don't worry about "not being strong enough".  Use weights that are genuinely challenging, and you'll see amazing gains in strength pretty quickly.

Newbs (I was one) gain strength pretty quickly.

And, if you want a copy of my Excel workout tracking sheet (I print it out and bring them with me in a binder) let me know!

  • That's encouraging! 600 cals a session is pretty intense. I'll probably invest in a heart rate monitor or BodyBugg soon too. I'm actually really excited! I would LOVE to have a copy of your training sheet if you'd like to share!
