    I am actually on Weight Watchers and have been since January and had lost 10 lbs (started at 160) and gained half of it back at least.  I restarted my goal and know that I need to kick start the weight loss by exercising.

    What do you do to exercise that is fun?

    Hi all!!

    Wedding date: 1-12-13

    Weight loss/fitness goals: Weight-wise I would like to drop about 25 lbs. I've already started C25K and really enjoying running, so I would love to do this 5K near me that is called the Hot Chocolate 5K. In order to do it you have to be under a 15 minute mile!

    Favorite cake flavor: Marble

    If you lurk, how long have you: I've lurked here for about a week or so, but I've been posting to the other board for a few weeks now.

    Anything interesting about yourself: I quit work in January to go back to school. Since then I love to cook (hated it before.)  I've also become much more creative and hands on making things for the wedding! Its awesome!

    Any question you might have: Nothing yet, but I'm sure something will come up! Smile

    Wedding date: 7.25.2013 (tentatively - can't book our venue yet!)

    Weight loss/fitness goals:  I don't have a number in mind, its really more of a feeling.  An energy level, a mood, a quick smile when I look in the mirror.  I want to be healthier and feel better about myself (not that I feel bad, I just know there's room for improvement!)

    Favorite cake flavor:  Cake has flavors? j/k - I haven't eaten enough variety of cakes to really be able to =(

    If you lurk, how long have you:  I don't really lurk on GIS, but I started lurking on TK about a year ago.

    Anything interesting about yourself:  I graduated with a B.S. in Merchandising 3 years ago, decided I hate it, and am strongly considering going back to school to be an elementary teacher (because I'm crazy and a glutten for self-punishment, I guess).  Although I do like the idea of being called Mrs FI'sLastName all day.

    Any question you might have:  What are your best tips for healthy eating & exercise when nobody else around you is?

    Any question you might have: Resisting temptation I work at a movie theater so popcorn and soda is a diet staple. It also messes with me while shopping I will smell cake or cookies and its crazy.

    Anything interesting about yourself: I'm a standard blonde white girl and I'm marrying an Indian guy (born and raised in the US).  His mom got me an Indian outfit (with a sheer section right in the center) to wear for the rehearsal and she'll be doing henna for me and my bridesmaids.

    Any question you might have: If I'm working out every day, should I be doing a different workout every day?  I know with 30 day shred, JM wants you to do it every day, but seems to me you should give the muscles a break.  Just got the Bridalicious Bootcamp DVD series and I'm also wondering if those are coordinated as such so that if you do a different one each day, you'll be working slightly different muscles.
  • Flutterbride:  I started out changing my eating lifestyle way before my H could be convinsed that anything but burgers and pizza were food groups.  I think the trick is to prepare meals that have simple, accepted by all ingredients.  It's the "weird" health stuff (hummus, greek yogurt, salads) that I think intimidated my H.  So for dinner, I might do a simple grilled chicken breast but have some non-dieter sides available that others can fill up on if they wish while you take a smaller portion. (roasted bacon potatoes, corn casserole)  Then have a healthy side like steamed veggies.  I love steamed veggies but my H.. not so much.  He does however eat them and love them with a little "butter buds" cheese sprinkled over them.


    Candie:  It can be tough to resist but there is no reason you can't have a little of the things you love.  just don't gorge.  Have a little popcorn.  My trick is that whenever I want something "bad for me" I drink a quick 20oz water.  That way my stomach is not empty and I eat far less than i would otherwise.  But if you watch your diet (count calories, balance it) you can fit in an occasional Auntie Anne's pretzel, movie popcorn (yes, with butter) without completely derailing your health progress.


    carlib:  I did the 30DS dvds every day (off on sundays or if I hurt) and had great success.  I think the real benefit to that and the Bridal Bootcamp dvds is that you're not really overworking any individual muscle group and mostly just getting a high cardio benefit through an accelerated heart rate.  Feel free to alternate days between the dvds.  it'll definitely help prevent exercise routine boredom!
  • My thighs would disagree that no muscle groups are being overworked, ha ha, but thank you.  The countdown is on.  My first dress fitting is July 15th, a little over two weeks away!

    Goals: used to be 105lbs (highly physicaly job, on feet 9 hours a day) and gained 20lbs (started a desk job, no more chicken with head cut off)...would like to be closer to 110lbs thought most concerned about the inches around my core, thighs and butt (all 3 expanded significantly with the desk job)

    Lurking: I've been lurking amongst all the topics for about 9 months or so. Aware that spot reducing isn't possible, but know where I tend to lose weight/inches first/fastest.

    Anything interesting: I don't really think I'm all that interesting

    Any questions: since starting my desk job, I feel as though my core & hips have "melted" and gotten wider/thicker to adjust to sitting in a chair (yoga ball for last 2 months) versus the long sleek muscles I had while on my feet all day as a busy dog groomer. I still have muscle tone in my abs (not as much, but there is some) but I feel like I've gotten shorter and significantly thicker around my core. Is it possible for muscles to "re-shape" to best support your body for its condition?? ie. sitting in a chair = wider hips to better distribute body weight vs long lean muscles, tighter hips = on feet walking all day

    (PS I was planning on posting this question to the board, hoping to get a wider feedback as well as add a few details and questions)

  • melissa:  Better get moving then!  If you need any help or direction, the GIS ladies are pretty fab at advice.



    Dapple:  it's likely as you think.  A loss of muscle tone from becoming more sedentary plus maybe a little extra fat buildup from burning less calories in a normal day.  I'd suggest tracking your calories on a site like SparkPeople to see where you are calorically and see if you can squeeze a little more exercise into your day to replace what you've lost.  Maybe take a walk during lunch or pick up a fun workout dvd for home.

    Its not so much the loss of mucsle tone, but rather that its reshaped? My hips have gotten wider and I waddle almost when I walk. It feels different and makes my hips sore. 

    A co-worker and I were walking on our lunch, however we've had a huge wild fire near town for the past month and the smoke made walking out of the question. We've also been over 100 degrees for the past week, so again, walking really isn't an option over lunch.

    I posted a much longer thread on the board. I'm sure that will be eaier to wor off of than this revolving thread here.

    Anything interesting about yourself: I have rescue dogs, and we want to incorporate their images into parts of the wedding- like our planned DIY invites and save the dates, and possibly our cake topper! (I'm artsy, so I'm making as much as I can)

    Any question you might have: I am a boredom eater- and recently I've totally zapped sugary drinks from my diet (only seltzer water and reg water) but I'm kind of tripped up in the snack category. LIke, watching movies I LOVE to eat popcorn (I now have an air popper- healthier) but is there anything else that is healthy without the greasy fat of chips?

  • Amsdragonfly:  You're right.  popcorn isn't really bad but it doesn't do much for you as a grain.  
    My favorite snacking foods right now:

    salty-  baby dill pickles, 
               homemade beef jerky
               blue diamond "smokehouse" almonds

    sweet- fat free/sugar free frozen yogurt with cocoa roasted almonds on top
                 Atkins nougat caramel peanut bar.  Tastes like a snickers but with 9 g of protein
                 Baby bel lite cheeses
                 celery with peanut butter or Laughing cow cheese

  • TGoze:  It's different for everyone.  I stay focused by reminding myself constantly (ticker on all my posts) and by blogging about my experience.

    Some perople do well with inspiration pictures, setting strict timelines, or even just a post-it note on the fridge as a reminder.

    Any question you might have:  How do you stay motivated?  I've been good for two weeks calorie and excercise wise and I'm five pounds heavier... so now I haven't excercised for 3 days.  Definitely need more motivation.

    Weight loss/fitness goals: Be overall healthier. Diabetes runs strong in my family, as well as heart disease, and the realization that I'm approaching thirty and that the reprecussions from not taking care of myself could start really manifesting... soon. I want to be happy and healthy for my fiance and future family, and finally have an actual drive to take care of this, instead of the passive "I want to be prettier, I'll stop eating sweets and fast food" diets of the last ten years (that never managed to stick more than a week.) I started at 325 last march - I'm down to 290, but I've got a LONG way to go.

    Anything interesting about yourself: My fiance lives just west of Santa Fe, NM - I live in upstate NY. Every time I visit, I develop a new found appreciation for, y'know, oxygen.

    Any question you might have: I've recently developed a love of running, and I think that's the main place my weight loss has been coming from (though I did obviously change some eating habits.) But I've recently become really, really self concious about my arms, so I'm going to start adding some kettle bell toning routine to the mix. I realize that toning excercises will help build the muscles underneath, but I don't suppose they'll make weight come off of specifically my arms any faster? :(
    (I don't know how weight loss actually works as far as where the fat comes from, I assume your body just kind of does law of averages XD)

  • Bespalk:  You're right.  You cannot spot reduce fat.  All you can do it tone up the are with exercise while practicing a healthy fat-loss geared diet and hoping the fat decides to come off your arms first instead of last.

    Madamoiselle:  Check out the couch to 5k program.  It's great for getting into running.

    Anything interesting about yourself: I am a flight attendant. That isn't really about myself, but it is interesting that I can spend one day in Kansas City, the next week in Japan, and then finish off the month in England. I am HORRIBLE about working out while on the road.. desperately looking for motivation.. I suppose the ring on my finger should do it :)
