Getting in Shape

low energy in the afternoon...

wow, i'm really dragging today! does that happen to anyone else mid afternoon on the day of an early morning workout? i dont drink caffeine and i have a busy evening so i'm not sure what to do... so sleepy...

  • A high protein snack is what keeps me going in the afternoon. Almonds are usually my go to.

  • I have a different type of job.... as in my hours are kinda weird. i'm a nanny... so i get to work at 8am, get breakfast & lunches together, take them to school, come back & get stuff done around the house... then workout for 45min or so. 

    I get home, i'm fine with energy, I have lunch & sit down, watch some tv... around 1:15/1:30 hits and i'm dead tired! I go back to work from 3-6ish... 

    it's driving me INSANE! I think I need to up the protein intake and watch my carbs... just hard, cause i'm doing weight watchers and many of my meals has more carbs than protein usually. 

    I know how u feel tho! It's really making me go crazy recently.

    Yessss!!! I wake up at 3 or 4, get everything ready for the day, hit the gym, shower & get ready there, work (teacher), usually have an after-school meeting, club or tutoring, and then at 4:30 I'm dead-tired! I try having a snack, which helps, and an afternoon walk with my pup helps too :) I've noticed that if I just push through it, I get my 2nd wind!  If I sit down or relax for a few moments, I feel even more tired.  That might just be me, because I know some people can take a 20 minute power-rest and feel better :)
  • I wake up at 5 to work out (lifting or running) then go to work.  At 4:30 I usually leave work and head to the barn to either muck stalls, ride or both.  What I find helps me is having a Luna bar on the way out of work.  I know, they're basically candy bars and not at all the best thing for you, but it works to get me through the afternoon, and they're kind of delicious!
  • Thanks! I'll try a protein rich snack tomorrow afternoon since i'll be gettin up early to work out again tomorrow.
  • Usually when I hit the afternoon slum I drink a fruit smoothy with added protein.  I usually make them myself so I add 1 banana, 1/2 apple, yogurt, milk and a vanilla protein blend which keeps down the calories, gives you just enough sugars from the fruit to give you a boost, but enough protein to keep you going after the boost is gone.  And it tastes great too!
  • Shakeology has turned this around for me. I have noticed an incredible improvement in the 3pm CRASH! I drink it every day and love it. If I make it my lunch meal it seems to help even more, but I love it for breakfast because I can make one of the recipes at home with more stuff in it.
