Working out on lunch

I find that the only time during the week where I can consistently work out is my lunch break. I'm pretty much planning on just running (HIIT). On the weekends, and when I can during the week, I'll do some strength training and ab work.

We don't have showers at work and I just realized that I'm going to be coming back to my desk all sweaty and gross. Does anybody have any tips for a quick freshen up that doesn't involve actually showering?

  • oh jeez- that is exactly why i don't want to work out on my lunch hour... i get way too sweaty during a workout. i've thought about it, and the best idea i could come up with would be baby or antibacterial wipes, and baby powder/perfume talc for a sweaty hairline. i know it wouldn't do it for me, but if you don't sweat that much, you might be able to pull it off!

  • My coworker (who sits next to me) works out at lunch. Honestly, the shower is the one reason I don't (I don't feel like/don't have time to work out AND shower). However, I don't know that he showers and he doesn't stink up the office. ;-)

I'd take some oxy wipes or astringent to wipe sweat and makeup off your face, then reapply any foundation if you'd like, which will help you look fresh. Other than that, I'd bring baby wipes, to use anywhere you feel less-than-clean, and reapply deodorant. I assume you wear your hair up while working out - I'd just brush it out and throw it back up again before leaving the gym.

Personally, though I sweat at the gym, by the time I get home (about a 10 minute drive) I'm pretty cool and dry. So a quick freshen up and I don't think you have to worry about sitting at your desk and sweating through your blouse.

This comes up on the Nest every few weeks, and the general consensus is that they bring a change of underwear, use baby wipes,  reapply deoderant and go from there!

  • I work out over lunch each day and typically don't have a problem. I bring a change of clothing and have a work clean up bag. I have baby wipes and deodorant in it. If you change clothing, especially socks and your bra then you should be fine.
  • A co-worker of mine goes to the gym at lunch and she only does toning and weights, so it's not as bad as cardio.

  • PP's have good suggestions, and if you have a sweaty hair issue, buy some dry shampoo--it is AMAZING. It's expensive but seriously the best invention ever.

  • I used to work out during my lunch (when I had a full time job). My hours were 7am-4pm and I usually waited until around 2pm to use my lunch hour for working out. I had a desk job so I didn't have any troubles eating my actual lunch at 11am while working. I would bring a change of clothes, a towel, baby wipes, and deodorant stuffed in my gym bag. I would put on extra deodorant before and after my workouts. My workouts consisted of both cardio and weight lifting, 3-4 times a week. I used to towel to mop up my sweaty hair line and other sweaty body parts when my workouts were more intense and then used the baby wipes for a cleaner smell. I'm a freak about scents and super anal about body odor (even if it's not mine), so I take ALL precautions. Good Luck!!
