Getting in Shape

Working out with Trainer vs. No trainer

My wedding is next July and I really want to lose some weight and tone up.  I just joined a gym by my house and with a new membership you get two free personal training sessions.  I have my first session today and I don't know what to expect (I'm a little nervous), I've always just worked out on my own.  The gym is offering "special pricing" for training packages and I've been thinking of investing in a package but they're still really expensive.  I would take advantage of the classes they offer, but I have a busy schedule (working FT, school & wedding planning) so they don't always work for me.  Who here has worked out with a trainer and how many times a week do you work with them and were they worth the money vs. trying to do it on your own?

TIA!

  • I work out with a trainer and love it. It has helped me to tone up alot! I used to work out on my own, but realized that I work much harder with a trainer.
  •  I agree, i sucked it up and went with a trainer for a year. My changed quite a bit and firmed up. It provides accountability as well as pushes and challenges you more than you would on your own. I'm able to do more weight and such than i ever thought possible, it's great for confidence as well!

  • I started working out with a trainer twice weekly about 4 months ago, and am so thankful I did.  I haven't really lost more than a pound or two, but have lost 2 dress sizes, so am assuming that I transferred some fat to muscle.  It is expensive, but if you able to make it work within your budget, I think it is worth the investment.
  • Thanks for the responses ladies!! Yesterday I had my fitness assessment and that was enough for me to buy a package of three sessions just to see how it is.  I figure I need to get back into shape regardless of whether or not I'm getting married.  That's just a motivator.  Today I had my first free one and OMG!! I'm already sore!  It was a really good workout.
