Cleanse diet or something for my digestive issues?

I have had issues with constipation for just under a year now. I've gone to three different doctors who just tell me to intake more fiber. Well no matter how much fiber intake I have everyday, I still have this problem. Seriously, if I was just "cleaned out" I think I would lose 10lb. So I was wondering if anyone has any home remedies of any kind or know of some cleanse diet that might help?

  • try hilde hemmes herbals bloat-rid tea... it contains valerian, caraway, pepperment leaves, and matricaria flower (camomile).. it's not a laxative, so any effect it has is subtle.  it's just something to drink every once and a while if you're feeling bloated.
  • Hi:

Sorry to hear about your problem. I had terrible issues for years and I understand. I was constantly told to increase fiber, but it made it worse (even though I increased my water intake).

What finally worked for me was changing my diet. I eliminated all wheat-based fiber breads, cereals, etc and instead only eat fruits/veggies/oats as fiber. I feel SO much better and have for about a year now.

Everyone is different, but I recommend experimenting with your diet to see what works for you.

    Good luck.

I wouldn't say that a Master Cleanse type thing would be appropriate, since they never are, but you might benefit from doing an elimination diet.  At the very least it should help indicate which foods are the most irritating to you.

Just google "Elimination Diet" and a whole lot of resources show up!

Also, when increasing your fibre intake, it's vital to also increase your water/liquids intake, or things just get further bogged down.

  • I have IBS and suffer the opposite issue but the advice from my doctor was the same. It didn't matter how much fiber I stuffed in my body, I was still worse for the wear.  There is  a "Smooth Move" tea available a grocery stores that was helpful to me on a cleanse.  I have tried a few of those and though you feel good for about a month - it is not a consistent or permanant effect in my experience.  I have tried a modified master cleanse (I added organic broths and raw fruits and vegatables in the evenings to mine) and the shakeology 3 day cleanse. I hated that I would immediately bloat back up after they were over and I feel like it messed with my metabolism as well looking back.
I've tried elimination diets as well as trying to eliminate dairy to see if I was lactose intolerant. The best thing that has helped me is to have a very low carb diet that concentrates on whole grain sources. 3 very small servings a day.  The rest is high protein, veggies and fruit.
Good luck - I know it's a very frustrating thing to be stuck with.  I've been trying to figure out mine for about 3 years now and I'd love to get it figured out.

  • My Son, my Brother and his Son all have Celiac Disease which is like an intolerance to gluten, a protien found in wheat, barley and rye. Your antibodies actually attack the villi in your intestines. All three of them have different reactions when they ingest it. It might be worth looking into it with your doctor.
