Strapless Dress- need the best moves!

Hey Ladies,
I have been lurking a lot, but not really posting- so hello! I'm getting married Aug 7th.

My questions is:
I really want to ramp up workouts to look great in my strapless dress. What are the best moves to tone upper arms/shoulders/chest?

TIA :)

Re: Strapless Dress- need the best moves!

  • Pushups. Look at the sticky post up top called "100 push up challenge".
  • First, congratulations and welcome!

Do you have access to weights?  If so, I would recommend shoulder presses.  Jillian Michael's 30DS has a really good combination workout move of squats and shoulder presses.  You really need to use the heaviest weights that you can handle (no 3 pound Barbie weights).  And I know the squats are not going to do anything for upper body, but they are definitely great for legs and butt.  You can probably find other upper body workouts for weights online.

If you don't have weights (or even if you do and want to switch it up), I agree that pushups are great. And tricep dips are great for your triceps (an area that is often overlooked).

  • Do tricep extentions while holding a one or two pound weight. They're awesome. I love Carmen Electra's Fit to Strip aerobics workout. The second disc is just an aerobic workout that tones all the parts of your body that you want to look good, including a section just for upper body. You get quick results if you stick with it. Plus, you could get the other discs and learn some moves for the honeymoon. :)

  • pushups and chairdips work wonders!

  • I disagree with using 1 or 2 pound weights.  You need to use heavier weights.  I do tricep extensions with 15 pound weights.  Start with at least 5-8 pounds (or whatever you can do for 8-10 reps - you should be at the point of exhaustion with your last reps).

  • Thanks ladies! Yes, I have a gym membership so I have access to all the equipment. I'll give those a try!
  • Do the p90x arm workout.  I've been doing that 3 times a week for about 3 weeks and people at work are complimenting me on my arms!  It works!
  • You need to work your shoulders a little more too. Try doing side lateral raises with a lower weight dumbell or around the worlds with a 3 or 5 lb. dumbell. Both along with the bicep and tricep exercises will give you a very nicely defined arm. For chest try doing dumbell presses on either the flat bench or the incline bench. Dumbell flys and the military press are also good exericises. I am currently doing all of these plus more. I hope this helps and good luck!
