Getting in Shape

P90X and Insanity

I was thinking in two weeks (I am running a marathon this Sunday so I don't want to try any new workouts for 2 weeks) I want to start the P90X program and then after finishing start the Insanity program and then do that as many times as I can before my wedding.

I wanted to know if anyone has done either of these two workouts or has done them both in this fashion.  Also, I know P90X is effective because I have a lot of friends who have been doing it, but I am wondering how good Insanity is and weather or not it is a porgram that is reasonable to stick to.  It says that it is a REALLY hard workout, but it sounds like, if it's too hard, it may have a high drop out rate?

Thanks!

Re: P90X and Insanity

  • I did Insanity for awhile and had to stop because I was taking 3 hour naps on top of sleeping at night. I just wasn't eating enough protein...so when you do Insanity make sure you follow the eating guidelines...you NEED it to have the energy. It is difficult but it is amazing how much of a difference you see after two weeks of doing the workout. I improved in every area significantly in the fitness test.

Basically Insanity is too difficult...BUT Shaun T says that if you can't do the exercise in perfect form then you need to stop. His whole philosophy is to go at 110% until you can't and then take a break until you can again. It's not a workout that you have to do the entire thing to see results.

It is definitely worth it! I've never done P90X but everyone says that Insanity is much worse. I think it sounds like a good plan to start with P90X and move to Insanity.
  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE the p90x!!!!
It hits all components of a solid fitness plan. Cardio. strength. Flexibility. You will not be dissappointed. You can adjust it to your current fitness level as needed.  I've always worked out, and am working on becoming a personal trainer right now, but p90x is awesome. And I'd recommend to anyone who wants to get in shape. But please remember, nutrition is just as vital as working out. =]

    Good luck!Laughing

  • I have been doing Insanity for a week now, it is definitely tough and I thought I was in ok shape (not great, but I would workout 4 times a week, typically running) and I could hardly move my first few days, but I can feel it working already!  I can let you know how I progress with the 60 day challenge if you want
  • It would be great if you could let me know how your progression in Insanity goes!  I love the idea of getting cut, since right now I just have a runner's body and want a little more definition.  So excited to try these two out!!
  • I really hate working out (and it shows), but I just bought Insantiy!  I'm going to start tomorrow probably.  After I'm done that, I'm going to try P90x.  A friend is burning a copy for me now!  I'm so excited, can't wait to hear how everyone does!
