Getting in Shape

it starts today

Hello all,
my name is mandie i'm getting married 6-11-11. I'm just gonna lay this out on the table :) I weight 241lb's I am a size 20 I have to be size 14 or lower by wedding day. I don't want my arms to wave at people i didn't intend too :) I don't want to HAVE to wear spanks unless i want to. I want try on dresses and not have to leave the back open to imagine what it would look like in "my size"

So this starts today. Today I'm making the choice to be a more healthy and fit bride and person. Right now i'm the biggest one in my bridal party even coutning the groomsmen. This can't happen. Smart choice 1 for the day: i switched to fat free coffee creamer. Its about time for lunch so we will see what healthy choice has to offer. I'm going to do this, I'm dertermined to do this. I bought the "just dance" game for the wii and i'll ease myself into "workouts" with that. Wish me luck ladies :)

    Welcome!

    You've got a good deal of time until your wedding, so you can see some great changes.

    Start by making small changes.  If you drink pop/soda multiple times a day, start cutting back (or stop completely if you can, even the diet stuff is junk!).  Start drinking more water and really start paying attention to portion sizes.

    Check out a site like MyPlate (through Livestrong.com) or SparkPeople (I prefer MyPlate) and, when you're ready, start tracking your calories.  Setting a goal of 1-2lbs of weight loss per week is definitely attainable.

    Weightloss is, about 80% diet, but exercise is important for your health too!

  • Welcome Mandie!  You have a whole year to make significant progress towards your goal.  And you are starting out right - one step at a time.  Small changes add up to big changes, and once you start to see results it will become easier.

  • Good luck! I think the way you're approaching it is great! The little things can really add up and making a drastic change too fast can lead to set backs. If you make a change a time, so switching to low fat creamer this week and next week adding in 10 minutes of exercise, you'll do great!

  • Welcome. Good luck, I'm sure you can do this. Like everyone else said you have plenty of time to see significant changes and one step at a time is the best way to approach a lifestyle change! :)
  • Good luck! I started off at a size 18-20 (between, really) and now I'm squeezing myself into 16s in just 5 months. You can definitely do it!

  • thanks for all the welcomes and kind words :) it is gonna be a long long road but with almost a yr notice i'm sure i can do it. I don't want to change everything all at once ( i love big macs way too much for that lol) but by adding a workout to my life and small changes like eating a salad before each meal so i won't be as hungry for the entree will help oodles. The way i see it by telling you all my real weight (drivers license says 185 lol) I feel like i have no choice but to make you all proud.

    Good luck!!  I've just started my work out and diet routine too.  Biggest thing to remember, is don't give up!  We all have that carrot that is pulling us to the finish line, so keep reaching!! :)  You'll do great!!
