Getting in Shape

Anyone tried the insanity DVDs?

just wondering if anyone has tried the insanity workout? Was thinking of buying them but they are pricey. Are they worth the money?

Re: Anyone tried the insanity DVDs?

  • I did Insanity a little over a year ago, and I would definitely like to do another round before my wedding next April. If you are looking for an extremely challenging cardio workout, then it's definitely worth the money - just the warm-ups had me huffing and puffing!

  • My parents bought the DVDs and ended up sending them back (I dont know why).  I tried one of the DVDs before they sent them back and I agree with Bakersduzin - by the time the warm up was finished I was pretty tired.  I consider myself to be in pretty good shape and these were tough.  I think if you stick with them you could see some amazing results because they are a full body workout.
  • I am almost finished with my first month of Insanity, and I LOVE it.  I haven't lost any weight on it (I'm small to begin with), but I did replace several inches of fat with muscle already.  Since muscle weighs more than fat, I'm assuming that is why my scale hasn't gone down.  For the first time ever, I'm actually excited to wear a bathing suit for our honeymoon.  I've got the best abs I have EVER had.  It doesn't really work the top half of your body too much, so I'm going to start lifting small weights so I look good in my strapless dress.  It really gets at your core.

Like the other people, when I first started it, I could barely get through the warm-up.  Now, however, I can get through it all.  It's really helped me get into shape with the horribly busy schedule I have.  Several people at my work are doing it, too, as a result of me :).  I just bought another one of their DVDs, Chalean (?) Extreme.  I don't know anyone who has used it, but it had good ratings.

My advice would be to buy the DVD off of Ebay.  They're much cheaper.  My copy might be a fake; I can't really tell, but it has worked fine for me.

If you don't want to add muscle, though, don't do it.  It's been great for me to tone nicely.  I will be finished with the entire program right before my wedding, so I'm excited to see how I'll look!
  • i wouldn't recommend insantity. i purchased it and wasn't happy. too much jumping and pounding on your knees. i haven't heard about many people actually losing significant weight on it either. i actually gave it to my friend while she liked it she doesn't look any different.
on a side note i bought the 10 minute trainer made by the same company, beachbody. i LOVE it! it consist of 5 diifferent 10 minute programs. they suggest you do 3 routines a day for a total of 30 minutes (comes with a calendar of workouts). i did it for 1 week and my fiance told me he saw a total difference. if your going to spend the money i think 10 minute trainer is a better option.
  • My coworker uses them and it sounds haaaaaaard! She showed me a thing or two from it for arms and they're hurting so I cna only assume that means it's working.
  • I just started it on Monday after finishing cycles of P90X and P90X lean.  Wow.  It is hard. I like it more than P90X though because it is shorter, and I am dripping at the end.  P90X was great, but it wasn't so much cardio so I didn't always feel like I really exerted myself.  I am pretty fit to begin with, but I am hoping that my abs will make their grand appearance in the next 53 days.
