Turning Red

When I exercise my face gets really red. I know that it is a natural way for my body to cool down, but it lasts for an hour after a workout. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the redness to go away more quickly? I don't really enjoy looking like a beet :)

Both my mom and I (to a bit of a lesser extent) get very red faced when working out.  It's just part of who you are!

You can try splashing cold water on your face, that might help, or a cool shower (love that, especially in the summer).

  • Thanks raynes. I think I might just try a cold wash cloth on my face afterwards. If I shower too soon, I find that my body is still cooling down after and I feel gross again.

I get that.  No showering until you stop sweating!

  • I have the same problem, people think I'm about to have a heart attack at the gym.  I've heard that dousing a washcloth in cool milk is supposed to help.  And there are makeup foundations out there specifically to calm redness if you need to put makeup on right away.  I agree, I hate showering right away, then getting out and continue sweating.

  • I get so red too!

I use Aveno Calming daily moisturizer with "feverfew" (I have no idea what that is...) it seems to help, and it smells nice.
Also, I drink a lot of water and take a freezing shower.

  • Thanks for the tips! Caraellen - people stare at me. It drives me crazy.
I am going to look for that Aveno product.

  • Right after I get off the treadmill or bike, I head to the bathroom, and grab a paper towel and drench it in cold water. I wipe my face, neck, and chest (whatever skin is showing there). And let the air dry it off. Not only does it get the salt off my face, but it feels AMAZING! I feel it helps my face cool down.

I also drink a lot of water post workout.
