Getting in Shape

Zumba!

So I have been going to Zumba and I think it is great... but I have not seen many results yet.  Does anyone know how long it usually takes to see a difference? Also, any suggestions to help lost weight along with Zumba? I have shin problems and running isn't good... what are my other options to help shed the weight?

  • Are you weight training at all?  Cardio is not enough.  Also you might want to look at your calories.  You might need to adjust them if you are not seeing any weight loss.  Either you are not taking in enough calories or you are eating too many.  I use sparkpeople.com (its free) to help me keep track of my daily calorie intake and I tell you its surprising how fast the calories add up even with healthy food.
  • I just went to my first Zumba class last weekend, and was surprised that I liked it so much. I used to dance ballet and jazz, so it's fun way to get that "dancing" time in. However, I agree with the previous poster: I also lift heavy weights 2-3 times a week, do a spinning class once a week or so, and I have forced myself to start doing jogging HIIT (high intensity interval training.) I hate jogging, but mixing stuff up seems to be working - the past few weeks I've looked more toned and have dropped a few pounds.

  • THis is my first time on this board...and ironically tonight was my first night at a Zumba class. It was last minute, because it was the first time my gym offered the class. I loved it!!! But, like pp, as much as I loved it, I can see why you'd need to mix it up a little. I'm going to stick with the cardio/weight lifting routine but add some Zumba as a fun alternative to when i just cant bare the sight of the treadmill!
