Greek Yogurt

I tried greek yogurt (Oikos Vanilla) for the first time this week... and it was horrible! Yuck it was so sour tasting! I usually always eat Dannon Light and Fit Vanila and add granola, but I feel like I don't get anything out of it other then a lot of artifcial flavors and sweeteners. I know greek yogurt packs the protein, so I would prefer to aquire a taste for it.

Anyone have suggestions about dressing up their greek yogurt?

Re: Greek Yogurt

  • Traditionally, you're supposed to put honey in it. That will sweeten it up quite a bit. I also add cut up strawberries or I dip strawberries in the vanilla flavored chobani.

Well, there are a few things you could do.  As jonchrissy said, traditionally it's eaten mixed with honey, so you could try that.  That's how I eat mine.

You could also use at as a substitute for sour cream.  It's pretty much the same taste/consistency and way less calories.

  • I like to mix it with a tiny bit of honey and some frozen fruit in a smoothie.
  • Mehgan, where did you stay in Scotland? Fi and I were there in August and we stayed in Old town Edinburgh, then took a day trip to Stirling Castle and Loch Lomond.

About greek yogurt - yes, it's "strong" tasting, but also naturally creamy. Honey and granola help a LOT. My yogurt choices are limited because I can't eat the kind with gelatin, which pretty much all Greek yogurt does NOT have, so I'm trying to develop a taste for it. I'm not a big yogurt person overall though.

  • I love the chobani strawberry. I haven't ventured to the other brands yet, but my mom buys nonfat plain yogurt, then buys Jello and adds the packets to the yogurt. That way it picks up the flavor of the jello without any more calories.
  • Chobani's peach and blueberry are awesome!  I add dried or fresh fruit to the vanilla to some added sweetness.

  • Hilarious. This reminds me of a conversation I had with my fiance. Some people can't stand the "sour" taste of Greek yogurt; no matter what they do, it still tastes too tart. My fiance is one of those people. I've tried honey, brown sugar, maple syrup, etc. and he still can't stomach it. He also hates TangySweet and Pinkberry frozen yogurt too. But.. Dannon, Yoplait and TCBY he adores. Of course, they are also packed with sugar.

  • eww! the chobani vanilla/plain one makes me gag. after having all the yummy peach and pineapple ones this week the only one i had left today was the plain one..i added sliced bananas to it and i still had to toss half of it out :x
  • I like to add a little brown sugar and almonds to my plain greek yogurt.  Or, almonds and fresh fruit.  Sometimes I'll put greek yogurt and frozen fruit in the blender for a delicious smoothie.  Good luck, it took me a week or so of eating it to love it and now I can't imagine going back to regular yogurt!
  • the new dannon greek yogurt is good

my fiance can't stand it either no matter what is added... lol. He prefers the yoplait light with all the HFCS in it. Sorry but no thanks, rather not have manmade crap if I can help it!
