wii fit?

Anyone have a wii fit? How do you like it? Is it worth the money?

Re: wii fit?

  • I have one.  I used like once didn't really like it to much.

Some people have seen results though, I'm just more active than what the video game was wanting me to do.

  • I have one and for me it was not strenuous enough to see results. I use it to weigh myself though! Some of the games are fun. I like the yoga okay. I also have the EA Sports Active game which is more challenging and gives more of a workout as long as you do it on hard.
  • I use the EA Sports Active and like it. It is kinda like working out with a trainer, except cheaper.
  • It depends on you. If you spend your days practicing the ancient art of butt-sitting, then wii fit gets you on your feet and moving a bit and you can work up a sweat, especially with the running, cycling, and boxing.

If you are already fairly active it may not help unless you are doing it instead of some other sedentary activity and in addition to what you already do.

If you have access to a gym and can afford the fees, especially if you can talk to a trainer periodically, that is going to give you a better workout.

If you are like me and paid $40 a month for a gym membership for nearly 4 years and only actually worked out 3X a week for 6 or 7 weeks during that time, you're better off spending the $100 and at least having a balance board conveniently waiting in front of your TV so you can hop on for the 15 minutes before you have to shower instead of plopping in front of the computer to see what ridiculous thing Megan Fox/Lady Gaga/The Kardashians decided to wear in public this week.

Wii fit has helped me lose about 15 lbs. over the last year and a half (playing 3-4 times a month for maybe 40 min avg.)  Now I am getting serious and trying to go for at least 60 mins 5X a week (key word here is trying, lol), but I've lost 4.2 lbs in 4 weeks.

    Hope this helps!
  • Tmama said it best, for me at the time I started I had been very inactive. I had started a desk job, shattered & broke 3 bones in my foot so I had gone from a very fit person to a big lazy blob. It was great for me because it was a fun way to get fit enough to tackle other exercise formats without really feeling overwhelmed or discouraged because I was in such bad shape. 6 months later and I am running 7 miles a day, and starting p90x tomorrow!
  • I don't like it, but I was already pretty active when I gave it a shot.  I felt like I was just standing around and not getting a real workout.  And it's "age" estimator is ridiculous.  The first time I did it, I got 35 and the next time 70.  I'm 28 with a bmi of 22, I don't smoke and I run and do yoga regularly... the nerve of telling me I was 70 because I "leaned" differently!

I agree with pps that it could be good if you're not very active to begin with... so it depends on you!  and lifeizbeachy, good for you, running 7 miles a day!  That's amazing!
  • I dont have the wii fit but we do have a wii, i use it to play "just dance" that has helped me lose weight in the past and if i can get my lazy bum into the game room to do it more often i'd lose lots more weight than i am now :) I love the wii for weight lose. I am overweight and don't like people watching me at a gym, It just makes me feel worse about myself.

  • Like most others said it really does depend on how active you are right now.  I am pretty lazy and Wii fit works for me to get up and play some fun games that my FI loves to laugh at because I look ridiculous sometimes, yet I also get a little exercise at the same time.  I got it right when it came out and used it for 3 months close to everyday and lost 15lbs.  It is also really nice to be able to track your progress.  Weighing in everyday actually kept me on track, when I went up a little bit I knew I did something wrong that day and would change it the next time.  EA sports active is probably better though if you are active now.  The most activity I used to do is walk my dog so Wii fit was a good start for me and EA sports was too much for me at first but now I like to mix it up with both.  Good luck!
  • I like my Wii Fit.  Definitely spring for the Wii Fit Plus - it is worth it!

I like that it keeps track of my weight overtime in a graph and I like that you can queue up several different exercises to make a routine.

I wouldn't count on it as your only weight loss tool.  You'll need to do some other activities, like cutting some calories, or adding in a daily walk.

  • I have the wii fit and don't really care for it.  When I got it I can't really say that I was all that active.  However, the wii fit is just not enough.  It does not cause me to break out in a sweat or anything.  I get a better work out walking at the walking park for 30 minutes.  Don't get me wrong, I lke the games but, it's not much of a workout.
