Getting in Shape

C25K...just finished 1st wk, can't wait to start wk2!

Hi Ladies,
I just got in from my last run from wk1 on the Couch to 5k program and I'm loving it! Am I the only one who is getting a real high from the system?  It's great cuz it doesn't push you too hard, but it still helps you stay in shape.  I can't believe I havn't been using this since forever, what a fun way to get in shape!
I'm even theinking of starting wk2 tomorrow!  What do you guys think?? Would I burn myself out?? Should I give myself the day of rest? I know the program is supposed to be run with a day of rest, but if I have two days off in a row, I feel like I need to take advantage.
Thanks in advance! :D

  • I did the C25K last summer.

I recommend only doing three days a week and following the program.  It's working to build your endurance, which requires appropriate rest.  I don't think there's anything wrong with cross-training, however,

Good luck!  Everyone fears the first straight 20 min run.  You are ready for it when you get there!  It's a great program.
  • I'm training for a half-marathon, so no! lol you are not the only one who gets a high off of the training. it's amazing.
as far as taking a day off, I say that if you feel good, go for it. I just looked up workout #1 for week 2 of your program and even if you get half way through and feel you just want to walk the rest, it's an extra day you trained.
The idea of you "should" take a day off, I believe is a load of bologna. I take days off, don't get me wrong, but if I'm feeling good and it's not a "running day," I still run, I just run less as to not aggrevate any musscles, the last thing you want is an injury.
Best of Luck to you! I know a few people who have followed this pogram with tremendous success Smile enjoy your run

  • Thanks Heather!
I'm getting ready to go off on my run for today.  I've decided to split the difference and run one more wk1 run instead of moving up two days in a row.  That way I'll still be running, but I won't be pushing myself too hard two days in a row but I'll still be RUNNING!
I'm totally shocked at how much I'm liking running!  Maybe it's because I'm seeing results in my endurance so quickly!
    I'm off!!!

  • That is fantastic! I'm really happy you're enjoying it so much!
Running is really soothing too, alot of peopledon't try it because it's "hard" but I love the time to myself and a smaller number on the scale with toner muscles doesn't hurt either :)
