Getting in Shape

Less calories versus more cardio?

What would be more important to lose weight? Adding more cardio or really watching what you eat?

Re: Less calories versus more cardio?

  • Watching what you eat is more important. You could work out as much as you want but if you're eating horribly you aren't doing yourself any favors because you're just burning off what you ate and not actually losing the weight you want to lose or sculpting your body. You have to work out and eat healthily to get the results you want.

  • I agree that initially, watching what you eat is the most important factor in weight loss...especially if you have been not watching what you eat and eating more than you should. Creating a calorie deficit will lead to weight loss.

You didn't mention it but weights/resistance training is also a good idea because the more muscle your body has, the more calories it burns. So by integrating weights and resistance training into your weekly routine (3x a week) you will increase your muscle mass, hence causing your body to burn more calories. This means you can, in turn, eat more while still maintaining a solid (but healthy) deficit.
  • I'm doing bootcamp three times a week which has a lot of strength training in it. I am just wondering if I should add a cardio day also. I also don't know if I am "lost" on the nutritional side since I do tend to stress eat...
  • To decrease the number on the scale, what you eat.

To get healthier and look better naked, weight training and cardio.

There is SO MUCH MORE to getting fit and being healthy than just the number on the scale.
