AW: Mini wedding is on!

So the parents all met and finally decided to do the formal engagement on Oct.16th! Huge tradition for us. Well the plans have changed and we will be having a mini wedding of sorts for this, because of the parents. I have 3 months to pull this all together. I see it as practice for the wedding! (As much as I love them all, they don't know this stuff well enough to put it together) All I have now is what I'm wearing, 120 people on the guest list, and the date! The good thing is there are many things I can omit like favors, cake, etc. I can't wait.. this will be a great challenge after my conference at the end of the month!

Any advice on good smaller venues in FW? A very cheap Photographer?

TIA

    Congratulations!

I still had to do a double take when you said "mini wedding" and "120 guests", that is my idea of a mid sized wedding, hehe!

I've always liked the Japanese Gardens in Fort Worth.

That's awesome that it is such a praised tradition in your culture! (although I can imagine EXPENSIVE) haha

I have a couple friends who just started photography businesses....don't think any of them have done a wedding (or mini wedding) but I know they will be cheap!  Let me know if you are interested!

Congrats girl!!! You definitely have a lot on your plate but I know it will be well worth it. How does this "mini-wedding" work? Do you need food, music, ect??

    Congratulations!

Just a heads up if you need flowers -- be cautious of any florist trying to upcharge you for Sweetest Day. I had two florists quote me a "holiday price" and I had no idea why until I saw it was Sweetest Day, which I had never heard of. We ended up moving to 10/15 anyway, but it was still a surprise to see those holiday charges.

NMac2010 and Linz -- No I won't be married. the formal engagement is when the two families come together under God saying the agree with the union. It's like giving your blessing and it's I think another excuse to have a party. Need food, linens, photo, location, and things like that. No flowers, cake, video, favors, centerpieces...

Thank you ladies, trying to just stay positive at this and think of it as a challenge

    Yay!  congrats!

We had a similar thing, but it wasn't quite as large... we had 70 and it was definitely like a mini wedding.  I hired a start-up photographer that charged $50/hr last November.  All the food was catered from a Vietnamese place (so that won't help).  But I did all the decorations and invites.  We had cake from Central Market just for the sake of having cake, but it wasn't like a tiered cake.  Like you... no favors or things of that nature.  But a lot of food and people and craziness at my parent's house.
