When to do "who gives this woman" part of vows?

I'm in the process of writing our vows and I definitely want to include the "who gives this woman to this man" part, but I can't figure out where to put it.  Does it go at the very beginning or just prior to us saying our vows to each other?  Thanks!

Every wedding I've been to it was done immediately after the bride walked down the aisle.   Usually the pastor says a prayer and then that is the "start" of the ceremony.

i have a question about this as well. i am less traditional and don't want our officiant to say "who gives this woman" as i am not an object to be given and would prefer a more modern and appropriate way of saying something similar

    We're doing this-

Pastor: "who is bringing bride to be united to groom?"
Bride's father: "Her mother and I"
Pastor: "Bride's father and mother are you willing now and always to support and strengthen this marriage by upholding bride and groom with your concern?"
    Bride's father: "We are. "

    Repeat same for groom.

<div>Our officiant asked "Who presents this woman to be married to this man?"  My grandpa said "I do," and H came and led me the last few steps to the podium.</div><div>
    </div><div>I figured that in my 40s, I'm a little too old to be "given away"  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" /></div>

We are going to have the minister ask "Who offers their blessing for the union of bride and groom?"

When my Priest asks "Who gives this woman" I will answer "I give myself"

I won't be doing this part either. My dad will walk me down the aisle, but will just kiss me on the cheek/hug me and sit down. No flipping of veil or giving away.
