Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

Is it okay to just say "I Do"?

I sort of have stage fright even in front of my most dear family and friends.  Is it okay to just have the officient recite vows and we'll just say "I do"?

Totally okay (-: There's a reason those two little words are so famous!

I agree, I am going to be nervous/crying maybe so I just want to say "I do".

We're planning on writing our own vows, but I'm thinking of prepping the officiant so that if I'm struck speechless, so he/she can take over with the traditional vows.

I'm normally a chatterbox with little fear of public speaking...but FI's proposal had me speechless, so it's possible the wedding will, too. :)

Given how common a fear of public speaking is, I would think the traditional "I do" is the norm.

oh my... I just looked up vows because I really wasn't sure what the options were and I might just have to retreat to "i do" as well... seeing how I just about started bawling just reading them out loud to myself. I'm pathetic lol :D

I have the same problem! But I've found that if something makes you cry to read it, you can eventually read it out loud without crying just by reading it aloud to yourself several times beforehand - rehearse your vows 20 or 30 times (or however many times you need) until you don't get a catch in your throat anymore.

I'm not married yet, but I can only imagine you might still have a little trouble on your wedding day - hopefully, though, it will just be a few tears and will only make the ceremony a little more personal.
  • Our ceremony was short and sweet.  And we did exactly that.  Our good friend (and officiant) said the vows and we only recited "I DO".  It worked for us.
