Trash the dress

Hello ladies! I've never actually introduced myself. My name is Michelle and I got engaged about a month ago. We've been dating for 4 years come October and we are so happy to tie the knot.

Anyway, I was wondering what you guys think of the whole 'trash the dress' thing. I think the pictures are gorgeous and might end up doing it myself. I have no interest in saving my dress, so this could be a great way to get rid of it. Lol. What do you think?

I'm skipping bridals in favor of TTD!.  :)  It's the same thing as the bridals but more artistic.  :)  Besides, my wedding dress will just sit in my closet forever.

I would LOVE to do that. But I want to sell my dress after the wedding, so probably not the best idea.

That's what I'm torn between! I'm a major budget bride, so selling the dress after the wedding would probably be the smart thing to do. I think I'll look back and wish I had just done the pictures though...

Yeah...I'm not sure. I think it would mainly just be more fun, rather than I think I would look back and wish I had pictures. I didn't get bridals done either. I just personally don't need a bunch of pictures of myself, in my wedding gown.

I'm a budget bride too! Mainly selling mine because I will never use it again, never wear it again, and no daughter of mine will want to wear it. My mom tried to suggest I wear hers, and I said "Mom, that thing is about 3 shades of yellow too bright for me, and a little 1970's. Or else, I would!"

Lol! My sentiments exactly. Nobody wants to wear their mom's dress, so why keep it? I am a huge fan of photography and I have always had a deep appreciation for the art. I spend hours looking at photos online and more than half our budget is being spent on the photography. For me it's more about the finished pictures and less about the experience.

You can always make the decision to trash or not to trash until after the wedding.  After engagements, bridals, boudoir, rehearsal dinner, and wedding day photo shoots (complete with hair and makeup appointments each time), I'm just really tired of having to go through the whole process of getting ready for the photo shoots.

That's funny, 1/2 of our budget is going towards photography too. The pictures were my absolute MOST important thing to me. That was the first thing we looked for when we got engaged, even before a venue. And I was VERY picky about photographers. My wedding pictures, and engagement pics with FI will be very very precious to me, everything else material that you pay for on the wedding day won't be remembered after that one day.

I completely understand what you mean. Who did you pick for your photographer?

I will probably do several TTD shoots. My FI is a photographer, so I'll have him take them. I have several ideas and he has some ideas, too. I paid a lot of money for the dress, and I don't have to pay for the shoots, so I figure I might as well get as many cool pictures out of it as I possibly can!

We used Cristina Wagner for the engagements, and are using Kevin Jairaj for our wedding.

I think they are cool, but if you spent more than $500 on your dress, what about getting a dress from a consignment store so your don't ruin yours.

    This girl did just that:

I CAN NOT WAIT TO DO TTH!!! Im actually going to buy a different dress at a resale shop because I want to TTD before the wedding, so that I can display them instead of having the "Traditional" bridal portraits! I spoke with my photographer and she thought that was an Amazing idea! I say go for it! I just cant ruin MY ACTUAL wedding dress b/c my parents purchased it for me and they would have a cow!!!

There is a Re-Sale store here in the dallas area that has reasonably priced dresses! Its call Anonymously yours...  http://ayresale.com/

    Good luck ladies!!!

I did TTD.  I had an absolute blast.  I bought my dress knowing I was going to do that & I didn't do bridals. :)  I did it a year later to celebrate our anniv. :)
