Help...I need vintage flower ideas.

Our wedding is at an Estate with kind of a "backyard wedding" feel but it's also going to carry a vintage theme.  Before I ask my question I want to kind of paint a picture of our theme so you girls get the right idea and maybe it will be easier to suggest something.I will be incorporating lace throughout the wedding, I will be placing large vintage pic frames in the center of the tables and have the vase and flowers in the center of the frame as the centerpieces, I have a vintage little table I will be using as the guest book table, for the guest book -- well, we aren't having a guest book we are having squares of fabric for our guests to write on so we can make a quilt out of it later (part of the backyard wedding/vintage theme)  But I'm stuck on the type of flowers to use.  I really don't want roses, I wanted something different I just don't know what.  I like hydrangea and peonies, but I don't know that that's very vintage?  I was thinking maybe dried flowers mixed with fresh flowers? Maybe wild flowers?Help! =]Oh BTW my colors are all white with Plum/Eggplantish accents.

Well you can't hardly get more "vintage" than roses or spray roses, but that's not what you want. You might consider "stock", which is a very feminine, old fashioned looking flower, that is easily available and inexpensive. It has clusters of blooms, similar to mini hydrangeas, but more cone shaped, like snapdragons (which could also could be considered vintage looking). They come in a variety of colors, usually white, blush, pinks, and shades of purple. You might also consider a mix of: lilies peonies ranunculas zinnias You might also like a touch of lavender or purple with filler flowers such as limonium or statice, or some herbs such as lavender, rosemary, or thyme. But they can be very aromatic, so it could easily get overwhelming or cause problems for allergy sufferers. You can do an image search if you don't know what these flowers look like.

I know you said no roses... but, check out some of the different varieties of roses... google image search for cabbage roses, spray roses, garden roses... there are some that don't look like the "typical" rose. I think some of these flowers have an "old" look: ranunculas, dahlias, snap dragons, lisanthius, queen anne's lace, peonies, tulips, stephanotis, lily of the valley. Maybe even star of bethlehem or belles of ireland, for a little green. Personally - I don't like dried mixed with fresh. And, I don't think wild flowers will necessarily give you a "vintage" look. From your description, with the lace touches incorporated, it sounds almost like you're going for a victorian sort of look. You should look up a picture of the victorian bouquet holders. They might look cool (and, a little unique).

Look at anemones. Depending on what you pair them w/they can look modern or very vintage. I think they actually look more vintage...but I'm putting them w/bright green orchids to get a funky vibe.

Oh, I agree with anenomes, too! (there is one kind with a black center, and one kind with a more greenish center...) The poster above mentioned tuberose. There's another one. There's a lot to choose from... :)
