I heard this morning it's supposed to take 5 years to complete.  Luckily, I don't go that way much.

We live right down MacArthur from 635.  We use it to go everywhere :(  I am a little bummed now.

Umm,  this definitely would have come in handy yesterday! I heard them talk about it a while back, and I wasn't sure if they scrapped the idea or not. I'm glad to see they haven't since the 635 ridiculousness is what keeps us from doing a whole lot west of 35. Traffic on a Saturday afternoon? No thanks.
While we're on the subject of traffic, does anyone else feel like people turn to idiots south of 635 on 75? I feel like nobody can go the speed limit EVER. I almost need a xanax to drive anywhere these days, I am such an impatient driver. I'm fairly confident that one of those idiots will be the cause of my demise.

I can't believe they are doing this. Soon it will all be tolls.

Pay to drive on roads... when will it end? That is my exact commute every morning :(

I pretty much live at the corner of the North Dallas Tollway and 121 Tollway.   I used to work for a company that our office was on in Dallas on South Lamar (in the hood) and if I wasn't going to the office I was headed to the airport.  It cost me about $6 just to go to/from work no matter which was the case.  Now, I work from home so I save a skosh of money, but I still have to pay to leave my house and go anywhere.

I had heard about this from a friend of mine who is an engineer and will be doing some of the work on it. It won't all be a tollway, similar to the Katy tollway in Houston.

Honestly 635 is by far the worst road in Dallas.  For two years I used to live off 635/Midway and commute to SE downtown Dallas - it was awful.  One evening it took me 4 hours to get home because a cement truck dumped over.  Statistically they have the most fatalities of any highway in north Texas.

The road is poorly maintained by the state, and most of the accidents are caused due to construction or lack thereof.   It looks like with this initiative you can choose to ride on the main road or pay the toll.  I avoid 635 like the plague, but I would gladly pay for an alternative!

I hate to sound like one of those crazy "i hate the government they are all out to get me" people BUT honestly, it will never end. We will eventually pay to drive on every road. As long as they keep crapping out our tax dollars, we are going to slowly start paying more for things, and paying for things that is crazy to have to pay for.

I avoid 635 and 75 at all costs, people seem to go temporarily insane when they get on these highways. If there is an alternative way of getting somewhere that does not involve those highways I take it! It is so crazy trying to drive to the mall on a saturday or sunday and you are sitting in bumper to bumper traffic!

I avoid 635 because the traffic is horrendous!  As far as paying tolls, I do hate that it seems like every road will eventually become a toll rode.  But I'm getting used to it.  I use GB to get to and from work, so I'm spending at least $80/mo in tolls.  But not much longer.  Once I move on Monday, no toll roads for the work commute.  Hello extra money in my pocket!

I saw it on the news at noon. It reminds me of how 114 will be in G'vine with the tolls and what not.

635 is a nightmare!  The only time I take it is at 11:45am on Monday morning on the way home from Denton.  Other than that, I avoid it at all costs.  Rush hour?  Forget it.  I agree that it must be the worst highway -- there are countless wrecks all across 635 every day.  Usually if I have to get from 75 to 35 or further west, I take NW Hwy or George Bush.

All the tolls roads do suck.  They had a story on the news a few weeks ago about how the tollroad that goes from Little Elm (I think...) to Lewisville over the lake was supposed to pay for itself and its hardly making any money at all.  I understand paying off the road, but what I don't know is where all of that toll money goes once the road is paid off.  Does it go straight back into funding for other roadwork?   It's weird this will be a fluxuating toll.  It will be interesting to see how that works!
