Flowers

Potted flowers vs. fresh cut flowers

Our wedding is in September 2011, and we are planning a casual, rustic, green (earth friendly not the color:) wedding. The colors we want to incorporate are yellows, blues, and white. I have planned on making my own centerpieces and getting my flowers from a u-pick nursery. But I'm contemplating on scrapping that and doing a potted flower as a centerpiece instead. My thought process in changing my original plan is that cutting flowers for just one day isn't staying true to my green goal, but I really want to incorporate flowers into my centerpieces. The other pluses are that they could also be given away as favors and I think it would lower my flower/centerpiece cost significantly.
So here is where I need the help:)
Has anybody done or is doing a potted flower as a centerpiece? Advice? Thoughts?

I also should note that I'm not stuck on any particular flowers but I'm going for a "wildflower" type theme, I also really like hydrangea's, lavendar, sweatpeas.

Thanks!

I think it's a good idea. Just make sure that the base won't leak all over the tables. You could even have alternating colors at the tables. One blue, the next white and the other could be yellow. Just have your DJ, band or main person in charge make an annoucement at the end that the CP's are favors.

That is a great idea, very practical, economical, less stress, and more "green".

September is a great time to buy yellow and white potted mums or daisies for centerpieces, which can be given away or used as small thank you gifts.  They are perrenials so they will come back year after year if planted.

Plus, they can be purchase more than a week in advance, if they can get sun and water, so less last minute stress before the wedding.

I did this for my engagement party last year.  It worked out pretty good.  Just make sure that you buy the flowers closer to your wedding day.  Some of my flowers didn't look great because I bought them a week and a half early.  We had a picnic themed BBQ for our engagement party and I made the favors.  I had the clay small pots with flower seeds.  I super glued a red and white checkerboard ribbon around them and also included a save the date card in each.
