Hi!

What are your thoughts on fake flowers (like getting them from a store like Michael's and making your own) or using a Florist? Let me know your thoughts!

THANKS! Laughing

I always prefer real flowers to silk but it's a personal preference.

I'm not a fan of fake flowers.  Even the cheapest live flowers look better than silk, IMO.

I'm using fake flowers for my BM's bouquets, my toss bouquet, and GM's bouts.  Our real flowers will be in my bouquet, FI's bout., centerpieces and on our cake.  I think if you use the fake flowers and they're put together right it looks good.  I had a friend who used all fake flowers in her wedding last year and I didn't know up until recently when we used them at my niece's birthday party and they still looked great.  So really it is a matter of preference and if you can pull them off to look nice.

I agree with everyone else that it is a matter of personal preference. If you are asking because you worry about price, I've actually found fresh flowers are cheaper unless you get a real bargain on silk flowers, but they might look like "bargain flowers". Check the multiple fresh flower websites posted by others, including Sam's and Costco.

If you are asking because you worry what others attending your wedding will think, it will also be a matter of the guest's personal preference. No one will fault  you either way, because you are planning it based on YOUR preference.

FWIW, I'm getting real flowers from Costco. Yes, it's a pain to deal with fresh flowers close to the wedding; however, for me I love fresh flowers, their smell, and the way they look.I'm willing to assume the inconvenience of dealing with it close to the wedding.

There are so many opinions out there and pros and cons to each. I personally like real flowers and like ones that smell nice like lily of the valley and oriental lilies, although I use some silk ones as home decor.

I prefer real flowers. I grew up gardening and my mom owns a flower shop that I used to work at, so I can spot a fake flower from a mile away. It's just my preference. I love the smell and look of real flowers.

For me, it all depends on how they look.  If they look cheap and fake, I'd rather they be real or not have flowers at all.

I prefer real beacuse I think that they look better in pictures. I also used to work at Michaels and have had lots of experience working with fakes, so it probably colors my judgement. To me they just look, well, fake. It is also a lot cheaper to buy fresh in bulk and DIY than to DIY with fakes unless you can shop a mega clearance at the end of a season.

I prefer real, and would love to have real, but I just went to Michael's and bought fakes for my bouquet and 3 bridesmaids, and it cost less than $50.00 for everything including ribbon. There is a sale going on--Ashland brand fakes are 50% off. I bought real-touch orchids...was looking for peonies but they didn't have them! When I was pricing out using real flowers, the cost was unaffordable for me. If the price in already-made bouquets of flowers drops at Sam's Club near the wedding location, I may still go out and buy real ones...just depends.

I am using real for my wedding. But each bride has a different view on it.  Many silk flowers do end up looking real.

Personally I like fake. I dont like using real because then the flowers die. I will be doing potted plant centerpeices that way I get real flowers but they wont die a couple days after the guests take them home. I was never one to enjoy getting real boquets because I never knew what to do with them after I dried them (I hated letting them wilt and die then throughing them out). So I will be making my boquets out of silk flowers.

I'm all for the silk flowers... my mother-in-law to be just showed me her silk flower bouquet the other day. It was so neat that she still had them and since she has 3 boys, I'm the first one who has cared about them. She uses it as decoration in her house and it has so much meaning behind it.

When you walk down the aisle people will be looking at you and your beautiful dress, not focusing on your flowers. Silk flowers have come a long way and can look real if you get them from the right place. Most of the flowers you can get at craft stores look pretty fake, you might want to around on the internet. I know there are several people who sell silk bouquets on etsy.com and you can even customize a bouquet. Not to mention you will get them in advance and not have to worry about when the flowers will be showing up on your wedding day, not to mention can be a lot cheaper. A friend of mine got stood up by her florist, it can happen.
