Mix of Fresh and Fake?

Would it be totally inappropriate to have fresh flowers for the bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages and fake for the centerpieces?

You can do that however you want.

I'd definitely do fresh flowers for the WP and altar flowers, because they are gifts to God, or to your WP, your nearest and dearest.  Unless there is a compelling reason not to (severe allergies, logistic problems...).  But the flowers for the centerpieces are purely for decoration, it doesn't really matter if they are real or fake, just so they look pretty.

To be completely honest, I think fake flowers always looks fake and the more realistic option are not much/any less than some real flowers. I'd do real carnations or wild flowers for the centerpieces instead! Bunches of carnations one color of carnation can be stunning.

SarahSmile: It's funny you mention a bunch of carnations because that's what I'm doing! No filler flowers or anything, just a huge bunch of carnations in one color.

that's going to be gorgeous. bunches of carnations without filler flowers look a LOT like bunches of peonies for a fraction of the price! if my wedding hadn't been during peony season i would have used bunches of carnations like this:
