DJ Pricing!

For those of you that have booked a DJ, what was the price they gave you for a 6 hour period? If not 6, just in general?

I'm in LA, I have a DJ for 5 hours at $700.  That's actually a discount from the original price because we have a friend in common.  Depends on the city you're in and the experience of the DJ, their equipment, etc.

Totally depends on location & what you want included in your package.

In my area packages start from $800ish-$3,000+

To previous poster: $350 is a GREAT price!

Ours is 6 hours for about $700, including transportation. He has TONS of music, his own sound system, lights, actual "DJ" equipment (not just a laptop with a bunch of songs on it), he emcees, we can pick our songs and such online to submit it,  and we have the option to extend his time that night for... I think $50/ half an hour. He has the package set up for an hour cocktail hour, dinner hour, and the rest "dance floor" time. He also had options to upgrade the sound & lighting systems if you wanted better equipment (based on size of the room & personal preferences).

    We asked questions like:

    1.  How long have you been in business? (A newbie might not be very good, even if he's cheap.)
    2.  Do you have references? (ALWAYS ask this question - to any vendor.)
    3.  Do you have all the licensing/bonding paperwork? (Gotta make sure he's legal!)

We also met the guy to see if we liked his personality and personal philosophy.  He had everything with him in a binder that we were able to look through, including pictures of his equipment, DJs, and his most requested songs for intros/first dances, etc.

    Hope that helps!

I am paying $900 for 5 hours, but we are getting our ceremony and cocktail hour for free!  Since we are getting married on a Sunday, he gave us 6 lights for the walls and a pin point light for the cake for free.  So basically, we got 7 hours of music for $900 and $600 worth of services for free!  I am located in central florida but pretty sure they will travel!

I was just about to post asking the same question! Luckly I found a DJ who would DJ for 5 hours for $400. This includes moving his equipment from one outdoor location to another indoor location for our reception. (He gave us $100 off cause Im "nice") lol Also, you may ask if they will price match! He is also letting us pick all songs we want played and when. (EX: cake cutting, garter toss... ect) As one of the PP mentioned.. ask about their experience. The guy we are using has been in business 10 years, and is a very popular local DJ. We will also be getting a gold CD of 20 songs with our names engraved on it... ooooh! Hope this helps!
