RSVP Card Wording

This should be pretty basic you'd think...and I've seen it discussed on other message boards but I wanted a local opinion.

Did you just go the generic M____ with a place to check accepts or declines for yours?

My question is if there are more than 2 people invited how do you know ho wmany are actually coming if you write it that way?  I'm not sure half my guests would even know what the "M" was for much less know to fill out everyone's name who is coming.

Anyone else do anything different from the standard?  Thanks in advance!

    We did:

    Please respond by XYZ

    Name(s:)__________________________

    RSVP choices

We didn't do the M_____, obviously, and the few people that did RSVP wrote the names of those attending.  I don't think we had anyone try to invite anyone extra.

    I did

    M____________

    __ accepts with pleasure

    __ declines with regret

If it's more than one person, they wrote

    Mr. and Mrs. Joe Blow

    accepts with pleasure

    or sometimes

    Mr. and Mrs. Joe Blow

    2 accepts with pleasure

I would do something like this: Name each person specifically, that way there is no confusion as to who is invited.

Jane Smith            _____Attending  _____ Not Attending

(Then write something here if you have food choices or something)

John Smith           _____Attending  _____ Not Attending

(Then write something here if you have food choices or something)

Please respond by May 00, 2010

We put ____(#of seats) have been reserved in your honour.

    ______accepts with pleasure

    ______declines with regret

    M____________________________

and then we are putting a number on the back of each card that matches a number we have given them on our list so in case they don't write a name, we still know who is coming!

    We did....

    Name _________
    Number of Guests ____

And it had a few other words on there but, most people understood that it meant total people attending. However, of course a few put 1 when I knew it was them and their husband or whatever.
