Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

CD for reception dance music

We want to have a backup CD in the unlikely event that the band we hired doesn't show up. We're looking for all fast-paced music since we don't plan to have a first dance for the bride and groom or other family members. We'll have guests of all ages, so a good mix of types of music and eras would be great. I don't like the electronic, synthesized music, though. Any suggestions?

Do you have an iPod or a laptop you could use instead?  That way you don't have to worry about changing out the CDs every 10 or so songs, and you can change the playlist on the fly if it doesn't seem to be getting guests out on the floor.

I would put some disco like Shake Your Groove Thang by Peaches and Herb, She's a Brick House by the Commodores, etc.  Some classic rock like Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf, etc.  Some 80s like Livin on a Prayer by Bon Jovi, Don't Stop Believing by Journey, etc.  Twist and Shout by the Beatles is another good one.
