How soon to do the engagement pics?

We were just engaged, and I am wondering if it is too soon to do our engagement pics...

Our wedding is next June, but I want to have pictures of us holding a sign with our date, and possibly use one of those as a STD magnet. So it seems like these should be done early.

We are probably going to use an ameteur photographer, so I wanted the pics to be done soon, so that if the pics are just not right for us, we still have time to fork over the cash for a professional.

When typically are e-pics taken? Are we jumping the gun?

    Lots of people do them right away.
    no harm in doing that.

    The FI and I are doing ours a year in advance.  Jumping the gun? ...Maybe, but I know I can't wait any longer than I already have!

    Got engaged March 6 and just got our pics done around the campus of the college we both went to. We wanted them for the engagement announcements in our hometown newspapers, and both our parents wanted to do that asap. I see nothing wrong with doing them NOW! Its fun!
