How many photographers did you meet with before deciding?

So I've looked at a bunch of local photographers' websites and online portfolios, as well as prices and policies.  Of the ones in my budget, the first one I contacted I sent a couple of e-mails with questions, which she replied to right away and thoroughly.  I met with her tonight and we really clicked.  Beyond just the photography stuff (I love her pictures), our personalities really match - I feel like we could have been friends for years.

But the voice in the back of my head says "Don't just book the first person you talk to without seeing anyone else."  Just because.  There are no real red flags as to why I wouldn't choose her.

Even so, do you think I should meet one of the others in person?

  • It couldn't hurt to meet with one more person. I know it took seeing another similarly priced venue that wasn't nearly as nice as ours for me to feel confident in our venue choice. I loved it from the start, but it was still helpful for me to confirm that it really was as nice as I thought it was, you know?

  • I met with five in person.  I chose the last photographer I met with and she was the most experienced of all of them.  We totally clicked, spent 2 hours talking, and hugged each other goodbye.  I knew when I left the meeting that I would hire her.  If I had met her first, I probably would not have met with anyone else.

Still, I agree that you might want to meet with at least one more, if for no other reason than to confirm that your first choice is the right one.
  • I knew which photographer I wanted from day one, but my husband wasn't so sure. For his sake, we met with two photographers - the one I wanted and one more. After comparing the two, my husband suddenly realized why I wanted the first photographer.

Can you ask her to hold your date for a week? That way you can meet with another photographer without worrying about losing her business.
  • We met with one photographer and booked them on the spot. I had seen their work when they photographed a friend's wedding, I stalked their website and blog, and their style of photo meshed exactly with what we wanted. Then we met them and our personalities clicked, so I knew we wanted them.

If you are unsure about them at all, go ahead and meet with another photographer or two. But if you love them, their photos, and the price, and you are positive about it, I don't think you need to meet with anyone else.
