Wax, Laser or Shave? Possibly TMI

I've been debating getting a Brazilian and having it waxed, but if it is just just as painful and takes half as long to get it lasered away, is it worth it if anyone has had it?  Where did you get either the lasik or the waxing done (if in the uptown/downtown Dallas area)? Thanks ladies!!

I had my laser hair done at Ideal Image.  I'm not sure where the Dallas location is though.

Did you think it was more painful than waxing? I've been shaving as long as I can remember and a little worried about the pain. But I figure I might as well go through the pain if its the same for laser if its the same as waxing.... But I've never waxed because I'm a bit afraid of pain. Any advice?

I have never waxed either...I thought it would hurt too much!  I'm not going to lie....the laser hair does hurt, but I am able to tolerate it and I do think it is worth it to not have to shave again.  A lot of people have said it feels like rubber bands snapping on your skin...I don't really think it feels like that, but it is hard to describe how it feels.  The first time hurts because you don't know what to expect, but after that I think it gets slightly better.  HTH!

I got a brazilian at Avalon in West Village for my wedding/honeymoon.

I'm not sure how different places do the laser, but I had another area lasered at a med spa and after 6 sessions the hair still didn't really go away.  I had a consultation with the technician before I did it, and she said that the results are not permanent and although some hairs would thin or go away almost entirely, there's no guarantees and you could be back to your normal state in a year.  I went with it anyway, and it ended up being a waste of money.  Your experience might vary, but I thought that anecdote worth considering - at least ask a lot of questions before you commit.

I got a brazillian before my wedding and have been back to get another one since then.  I thought that was well worth the money and will continue to get one periodically before certain occasions.  (I'm getting one before an upcoming beach vacation.)  And on regular occasions, I find shaving sufficient.

I also wasted my money on laser.  I ended up with only a few small bald patches after a over a year's worth of treatments and hundreds of dollars.

I get brazilians regularly from Allison Herrold at Joy of Waxing.  She's great, affordable, and less painful than other places I've been to.  I'm not gonna lie though, it does hurt.  But I think it is TOTALLY worth it.

That makes me nervous!  I had not heard of people who didn't lose hair from their laser hair treatments!  I seem to have lost quite a bit though!

i'll describe the pain... i think my exact words after words were... "i felt like one person had a knife and was scrapping the blade over my skin while another person was torching me with a blow torch at the same time"...
but all in all said, the pain gets less with each treatment and each time the hair grows back before my next treatment, it is finer, lighter and less than before. i just finished my 7th treatment. lower legs, under arms, nipples and full bikini. some areas like my legs i'm seeing the most results, but i'm glad i did it in the long run. after i get lazered and i'm hair free for awhile is awesome!!! i use smooth solutions in lewisville.... they messed up many times on scheduling my appointments and it is hard to even get an apt., but i'm glad i did it. i started it nov. 2008. and yes it is expensive in my opinion, but hopefully one day will be over!
btw, use the numbing cream!!!!! i cant do it without it. you can't use it the first treatment, but the first treatment is at a lower setting.

Yes I agree that it is good to use the numbing cream!  I do agree the pain gets easier each time.  The first time I just didn't know what to expect.  And then I was really sore the next day and couldn't figure out why...but then I realized it was because I had tensed up so much during the treatment.

I know it sucks!  But it has gotten easier....partially because I know what to expect and partially because of the numbing cream....so I try really hard not to tense up as much!
